Junior Open Championship
The Junior Open Championship is a biennial event, to which all golfing nations affiliated to The R&A are invited to enter their best under-16 boy and girl golfers. In 2016, 80 countries were represented in the starting field of 143 competitors contrasting with 2002 when a total of 86 boys and girls from 58 countries took part. Boys and girls compete in the same event but play off different tees. The Junior Open is closely linked to The Open Championship and is always played on a nearby course in the same week in July. All competitors are invited to attend The Open after the conclusion of their own event. The competition came under the R&A's administrative umbrella in 2000, having been founded in 1994. Stroke Play
Stroke play, also known as medal play, is a scoring system in the sport of golf in which the total number of strokes is counted over one or more rounds of 18 holes. In stroke play, the winner is the player who has taken the fewest strokes over the course of the round, or rounds. Although most professional tournaments are played using the stroke play scoring system, some notable exceptions exist. In match play, the player, or team, earns a point for each hole in which they have bested their opponents. Match play scoring is used in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, the Volvo World Match Play Championship, and most team events, for example the Ryder Cup. A few golf tournaments, such as the Barracuda Championship have used a modified stableford system. Moriya Jutanugarn
Moriya Jutanugarn ( th, โมรียา จุฑานุกาล; ; born 28 July 1994) is a Thai professional golfer. In 2009, Jutanugarn became the first female to win the Duke of York Young Champions Trophy. In 2013, she was named LPGA Rookie of the Year. She has played on the LPGA Tour since 2013. Her sister, Ariya, also plays on the LPGA Tour. Moriya won her first event in her 156th start at the 2018 Hugel-JTBC LA Open. Moriya and Ariya are the second set of sisters to win on the LPGA, after Charlotta and Annika Sörenstam. R&A Championships
The R&A is the collective name of a group of companies that together play a significant role within the game of golf. Historically, "the R&A" was a colloquial name for the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews; in 2004, the club spun off its previous governance and tournament organisation roles into the current R&A group, with the club itself reverting to a private members-only club. Steven Svejstrup Jeppesen (born 22 April 1984) is a Swedish professional golfer. Career Jeppesen played for the Swedish National team as an amateur and won on his first outing for the team, the Junior Open Championship at Crail, Scotland, in 2000. Crail Golfing Society
The Crail Golfing Society is a Scottish golf club established in February 1786 in the Golf Hotel, Crail, Fife. The society is the seventh oldest golf club in the world. Its oldest course, Balcomie, was formally laid out by Old Tom Morris in 1894, but competitions were played there since the 1850s. The courses are north east of the fishing town of Crail, and the land upon which golf is played straddles the easternmost promontory of Fife, known as Fife Ness.
