Jung-Hack Seo
Seo Jung-hack ( ko, 서정학) is a South Korean baritone singer. Career 1990s and 2000s South Korean Baritone to Perform with the Metropolitan Opera Company (1997–98). After graduating from Seoul National University, Jung-Hack Seo entered the Curtis Institute of Music. He debuted with the San Francisco Opera in 1993 where he was the First Asian singer to win the Schwabache Family Award. In 1996, Seo went on to win the Metropolitan Opera Competition and enter the Metropolitan Opera Young Artist Development Program. In 1997, he performed the title role in "Ill Barbiere di Siviglia" and other programs with the Metropolitan Opera Company. In 1997, he entered the Operalia, The World Opera Competition and placed second. A baritone is a type of classical male singing voice whose vocal range lies between the bass and the tenor voice-types. The term originates from the Greek (), meaning "heavy sounding". Composers typically write music for this voice in the range from the second F below middle C to the F above middle C (i.e. F2–F4) in choral music, and from the second A below middle C to the A above middle C (A2 to A4) in operatic music, but the range can extend at either end. The Curtis Institute of Music is a private conservatory in Philadelphia. It offers a performance diploma, Bachelor of Music, Master of Music in opera, and a Professional Studies Certificate in opera. All students attend on full scholarship. History The Curtis Institute of Music was founded in 1924 by Mary Louise Curtis Bok. She named the new school for her father, publishing magnate Cyrus Curtis. San Francisco Opera (SFO) is an American opera company founded in 1923 by Gaetano Merola (1881–1953) based in San Francisco, California. Seoul Arts Center
The Seoul Arts Center, also referred to as SAC, is an arts complex in the Seocho-gu district of Seoul, in South Korea. It consists of five main buildings: the Opera House, with three auditoriums; the Music Hall, with two concert halls; the Hangaram Art Museum; the Hangaram Design Museum; and the Seoul Calligraphy Art Museum. The Opera House is built in a shape that resembles the traditional Korean bamboo hat called '' gat''. In January 1982, the government decided to build a Seoul Arts Center, which would be in charge of the overall function of artistic activities, and began to select a site.
