Juan David Yrausquin
Juan David Yrausquin (born 1 January 1980) is an Aruban politician. He was Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba between 17 November 2016 and 20 November 2017. He was Minister of Finance between 2013 and 2014 in the second Mike Eman cabinet. Career In June 2009 Yrausquin joined the Aruban People's Party and in the September 2009 general elections he obtained a seat in the Estates of Aruba on the basis of preferential votes, while he was candidate number 29 on the list. On 30 October 2013 Yrausquin was named as Finance Minister in the second Mike Eman cabinet. On 5 July 2014 he resigned, citing "incredible abuse of power by the Dutch government in collaboration with the Governor (Fredis Refunjol)". The case related to the drafting of the 2014 government budget of Aruba. Yrausquin was succeeded by Angel Bermudez. The Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba ( nl, Gevolmachtigde Minister van Aruba) represents the constituent country of Aruba in the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The current Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba is Guillfred Besaril. The Minister Plenipotentiary and his cabinet are seated in the Arubahuis (Aruba House) in The Hague. A significant difference between the Netherlands ministers and the Ministers Plenipotentiary is that the former ministers are accountable for their politics and policies to the Dutch parliament. The Ministers Plenipotentiary, however, are accountable to their national governments, which is the Estates of Aruba in case of Aruba. Michiel Godfried "Mike" Eman (born September 1, 1961) is an Aruban politician who served as the 3rd Prime Minister of Aruba from 2009 to 2017. His political career began in 2001, but Eman has been involved in politics in one way or another since his childhood. His grandfather, father and brother were all prominent politicians in their lifetimes, with Henny Eman (prime minister), Henny Eman having preceded him in office (twice) as Prime Minister, including as the first to hold the office after Aruba's status aparte in 1986. Eman is a graduate of the University of the Netherlands Antilles (UNA) earning his law degree in 1992 with a thesis entitled "The Position of the Institution of the Public Prosecutor vis à vis the Minister of Justice in a Small Scale Community." Juan Alfonso Boekhoudt (born 27 January 1965) is an Aruban politician serving as the governor of Aruba since 1 January 2017. He previously served as minister plenipotentiary from 14 November 2013 to 17 November 2016. Life Boekhoudt was born on Aruba on 27 January 1965. Between 1991 and 1994 he worked in the cabinet of the minister plenipotentiary of Aruba. From 1994 to 2005 he worked as financial manager and director in the private sector. He served as director of the Aruba Ports Authority between 2005 and 2013. He also served as the chairman of the Aruba Red Cross between October 2010 and November 2013. Guillfred Francis Besaril (born 9 January 1974) is an Aruban politician of the People's Electoral Movement. He has been Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba since 20 November 2017. He previously served in the Estates of Aruba between 2013 and November 2017, the last month as president. Career Besaril was born in Savaneta. After attending high school he joined the Aruba Police Force in 1993. Besaril worked for the force until 2013. Between 2009 and 2013 Besaril was chairman of the Aruban Police Force union. In the 2013 general election Besaril was elected with 833 votes to the Estates of Aruba for the People's Electoral Movement. Angel Roald Bermudez (born 1950/1951) is an Aruban politician. He served as Minister of Transport and Communication between 1987 and 1989. From 2011 to 2014 he was director of the Tax and Customs Administration of the Caribbean Netherlands. Bermudez served as Minister of Finance between 28 July 2014 and 17 November 2017. Career Bermudez was born on Aruba and raised in the Netherlands. He studied fiscal and company law at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. He subsequently obtained a postdoctoral title at Leiden University. After training as tax inspector Bermudez returned to Aruba where he became head of the tax inspection. Aruban People's Party
The Aruban People's Party (AVP; nl, Arubaanse Volkspartij, pap, Partido di Pueblo Arubano) is a Christian-democratic political party in Aruba founded in 1942. AVP is an acronym for the Dutch name of the party. At the 2001 elections, on 28 September 2001, the party won 26.7% of popular votes or 6 out of 21 seats. On 23 September 2005, the party won 38% of the popular vote or 8 out of 21 seats, making it the largest opposition party of the nation. 2009 Aruban General Election
General elections were held in Aruba on 25 September 2009. The elections were the seventh to be held for membership of the Estates since autonomy was granted by the Dutch in 1986, and resulted in a victory for the Aruban People's Party, which won 12 of the 21 seats in the Estates. Background Prior to this election the People's Electoral Movement (MEP) were the governing party, holding eleven seats. The Parliament of Aruba ( pap, Parlamento di Aruba, nl, Staten van Aruba) is the unicameral legislature or parliament of Aruba. The parliament has 21 members, elected for a four-year term by proportional representation. Fredis Jose Refunjol (born 19 December 1950) is an Aruban politician and who served as the 3rd governor of Aruba from 2004 to 2016. Originally a teacher, he has served as a government official for the past twenty years, starting as a member of the Parliament of Aruba.
