Joyce Blau
Joyce Blau (born 18 March 1932 in Cairo, Egypt), is a linguist who specializes in Kurdish language and literature. Joyce Blau, editor-in-chief of Kurdish Studies, has taught at the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO). She is a member of the research team "Monde Iranien" of CNRS, Joyce Blau is the author of numerous studies on the language, literature and civilization of the Kurds. Blau was a close associate of the left-wing activist Henri Curiel and shared in much of his activities, starting when both were living in Egypt and continuing during many years of shared French exile. Kurdish (, ) is a language or a group of languages spoken by Kurds in the geo-cultural region of Kurdistan and the Kurdish diaspora. Kurdish literature (, ) is literature written in the Kurdish languages. Literary Kurdish works have been written in each of the four main languages: Zaza, Gorani, Kurmanji and Sorani. Henri Curiel
Henri Curiel (13 September 1914 – 4 May 1978) was a left-wing political activist in Egypt and France. Born in Egypt, Curiel led the communist Democratic Movement for National Liberation until he was expelled from the country in 1950. Settling in France, Curiel aided the Algerian Front de Libération Nationale and other national liberation causes, including in South Africa and Latin America.
