José-Miguel Bernardo
José-Miguel Bernardo Herranz (born 12 March 1950) is a Spanish mathematician and statistician. A noted Bayesian statistics, Bayesian, since 1978 he has been a professor of statistics at the University of Valencia. Bernardo was born in Valencia, Spain. He received a PhD in mathematics from the University of Valencia in 1974, and a second PhD in statistics from University College London in 1976. International Society For Bayesian Analysis
The International Society for Bayesian Analysis (ISBA) is a society with the goal of promoting Bayesian analysis for solving problems in the sciences and government. It was formally incorporated as a not for profit corporation by economist Arnold Zellner and statisticians Gordon M. Kaufman and Thomas H. Leonard on 10 November 1992. It publishes the electronic journal ''Bayesian Analysis'' and organizes world meetings every other year. ISBA is an "official partner" of the Joint Statistical Meetings. Sir Adrian Frederick Melhuish Smith, PRS (born 9 September 1946) is a British statistician who is chief executive of the Alan Turing Institute and president of the Royal Society. Early life and education Smith was born on 9 September 1946 in Dawlish. He was educated at Selwyn College, Cambridge, and University College London, where his PhD supervisor was Dennis Lindley. Career From 1977 until 1990, he was professor of statistics and head of department of mathematics at the University of Nottingham. He was subsequently at Imperial College, London, where he was head of the mathematics department. Smith is a former deputy vice-chancellor of the University of London and became vice-chancellor of the university on 1 September 2012. He stood down from the role in August 2018 to become the director of the Alan Turing Institute. Smith is a member of the governing body of the London Business School. Bayesian statistics is a theory in the field of statistics based on the Bayesian interpretation of probability where probability expresses a ''degree of belief'' in an event. The degree of belief may be based on prior knowledge about the event, such as the results of previous experiments, or on personal beliefs about the event.
