Jorge Alcalá
Jorge Luis Alcalá (born July 28, 1995) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher for the Minnesota Twins of Major League Baseball (MLB). Career Houston Astros Alcalá signed with the Houston Astros as an international free agent in December 2014. He made his professional debut in 2015 with the Dominican Summer League Astros, going 2–0 with a 3.06 ERA in 32.1 innings pitched. He played 2016 with the Gulf Coast Astros, Greeneville Astros and Tri-City ValleyCats, pitching to a combined 3–3 record with a 2.41 ERA in 15 games (ten starts) between the three teams. He played 2017 with the Quad Cities River Bandits and Buies Creek Astros, compiling a 7–6 record with a 3.05 ERA in 22 games (18 starts), and started 2018 with Buies Creek before being promoted to the Corpus Christi Hooks. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. The Corpus Christi Hooks are a Minor League Baseball team of the Texas League and the Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. They are located in Corpus Christi, Texas, and are named for the city's association with fishing. The team is owned by the Houston Astros. 2020 Minnesota Twins Season
The 2020 Minnesota Twins season was the 60th season for the Minnesota Twins franchise in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, their 11th season at Target Field and the 120th overall in the American League. It was the team's second year under manager Rocco Baldelli. On March 12, 2020, MLB announced that because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the start of the regular season would be delayed by at least two weeks in addition to the remainder of spring training being cancelled. Four days later, it was announced that the start of the season would be pushed back indefinitely due to the recommendation made by the CDC to restrict events of more than 50 people for eight weeks.
