Jordan Crane (comics)
Jordan Crane (born September 8, 1973) is an American comics creator. Crane first emerged in 1996 with the anthology ''NON'', which he edited, contributed to, and published. This anthology combines influences from Art Spiegelman's ''RAW'' and newer comics artists. After two more issues of ''NON'', he moved to Massachusetts and began collaborating with the now defunct comics publisher Highwater Books. (There are five issues of ''NON'' in total, all including work by Crane.) He has three graphic novels, ''The Last Lonely Saturday'', ''Col-Dee'', and ''The Clouds Above''. He is currently at work on his fourth, ''Keeping Two'', to be published in 2017. Crane's most recent book, '' The Clouds Above'', is a fast-paced children's story which follows the adventures of a boy named Simon and his large cat named Jack. A cartoonist is a visual artist who specializes in both drawing and writing cartoons (individual images) or comics (sequential images). ''The Clouds Above'' is a graphic novel by Jordan Crane, recounting the adventures of a boy named Simon and a cat named Jack. The pair skip school one day to avoid a nasty teacher and wander onto the roof. The staircase that they discover leads them above the clouds. They meet friendly pink clouds, dangerous storm clouds, and a flock of yellow birds. Their adventure is fast-paced, suitable for readers of many ages. ''The Clouds Above'' appeared originally as a weekly webcomic, under the name "Cloud Country." ''Where the Wild Things Are'' is a 1963 children's picture book written and illustrated by American writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak, originally published in hardcover by Harper & Row. ''The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'' is a children's novel written by author L. Frank Baum and illustrated by W. W. Denslow. It is the first novel in the Oz series of books. A Kansas farm girl named Dorothy ends up in the magical Land of Oz after she and her pet dog Toto are swept away from their home by a tornado. Upon her arrival in Oz, she learns she cannot return home until she has destroyed the Wicked Witch of the West. The book was first published in the United States in May 1900 by the George M. Ignatz Award
The Ignatz Awards recognize outstanding achievements in comics and cartooning by small press creators or creator-owned projects published by larger publishers. They have been awarded each year at the Small Press Expo since 1997, only skipping a year in 2001 due to the show's cancellation after the September 11 attacks. SPX has been held in either Bethesda, North Bethesda, or Silver Spring, Maryland. The Ignatz Awards are named in honour of George Herriman and his strip ''Krazy Kat'', which featured a brick-throwing mouse named Ignatz. ''The Comics Interpreter (TCI)'' was a zine of comics criticism, published and edited by Robert Young.
