History Murdo was founded in about 1907 by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. West Jones High School, the "Home of the Mustangs," is a public school in Laurel, Mississippi, part of the Jones County School District. The school provides education to grades 712. The school was named the state's Tech Prep Exemplary Site for 19752003 by the Tech Prep Exemplary Site Selection Committee. Ellisville is a town in and the first county seat of Jones County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 4,448 at the time of the 2010 census, up from 3,465 at the 2000 census. The Jones County Courthouse is located here, as is much of the county government. Northeast Jones High School (NEJ) is a public high school located in Jones County, Mississippi, United States, near the city of Laurel. Northeast Jones serves students in grades 7 through 12 and is one of three traditional high schools in the Jones County School District. History As part of a wider Jones County School District consolidation, Northeast Jones High School opened in 1965 as the product of three local high schools. After school integration in the United States, a black student was hanged in a bathroom and suffered non-fatal injuries.
