Soso, Mississippi
Soso is a town in Jones County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 418 at the 2020 census. Paul Davis, a singer and songwriter from Meridian, Mississippi, wrote a song called "Sweet Magnolia Blues", which refers to Soso. History According to tradition, the name "Soso" was derived from an old settler's common response to a question about how he was doing: "so-so". After the Civil War, yeoman farmers returned to the area. The town developed a small mixed-race community. Among its notable residents was Unionist Newton Knight, who lived there mostly after the Reconstruction era with his wife Rachel and family. Knight was known for having led the Knight Company in and around Jones County during 1863 and 1864 in resistance to Confederate authorities, trying to protect local farmers. West Jones High School
West Jones High School, the "Home of the Mustangs," is a public school in Laurel, Mississippi, part of the Jones County School District. The school provides education to grades 712. The school was named the state's Tech Prep Exemplary Site for 19752003 by the Tech Prep Exemplary Site Selection Committee. The school has become the high school of choice for most Jones County parents. A great academic school with high test scores and a great athletic program. Ellisville, Mississippi
Ellisville is a town in and the first county seat of Jones County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 4,448 at the time of the 2010 census, up from 3,465 at the 2000 census. The Jones County Courthouse is located here, as is much of the county government. The state legislature authorized a second county seat at Laurel, to the northeast, which developed as the center of lumber and textile mills, with a much larger population. Ellisville is part of the Laurel micropolitan statistical area. Sandersville, Mississippi
Sandersville is a town in Jones County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 636 at the 2020 census, down from 731 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Laurel micropolitan area. History Scottish settlers migrated here during the 1820s and built the Good Hope Presbyterian Church. In 1855, the town was named after the Sanders, a pioneer family. Home construction was influenced by the Victorian era, as there are a noticeable number of cupolas on buildings in the town. Hunt Refining Company has a refinery northeast of Sandersville which processes crude oil acquired primarily from local Mississippi fields. The refinery produces distillate feedstock, paving grade asphalt, heavy gas oils, naptha, and roofing grade asphalt.
