Jonathan Zwartz
Jonathan Peter Zwartz is a New Zealand-born Australian jazz musician. In the 2018 ARIA Music Awards, he won the Best Jazz Album category for his third album, ''Animarum'', released in 2018. Early life Zwartz was born in New Zealand. Career 1980s Jonathan Zwartz joined New Zealand pop band, the Crocodiles, on bass guitar, alongside Tony Backhouse on piano, Jenny Morris on lead vocals, Rick Morris (her brother) on guitar, and Barton Price on drums. Note: name given as Jonathon Swartz The group were based in Auckland and performed at Sweetwaters 1981 in January before they relocated to Sydney in the following month. In July of that year Morris left to start her solo career, the remaining members had recorded a single, "Hello Girl", with vocals by Rick but they disbanded soon after. Barney McAll
Barney McAll (born Melbourne, Australia, 1966) is a jazz pianist and composer who lives in Melbourne, Australia. McAll joined Gary Bartz's band in 1997, and has also played with the Josh Roseman Unit, Fred Wesley and the JB's, Groove Collective, and Kurt Rosenwinkel's "Heartcore". He completed his Bachelor of Music at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, and studied in New York and Cuba. Barney is the brother of pianist John McAll. His ensembles include M.O.D.A.S, GRAFT, ASIO (Australian Symbiotic Improvisers Orbit), and Non-Compliance. His most recent ensemble is Precious Energy, which features members from Hiatus Kaiyote, Laneous, and Rita Satch. Peter Jones (drummer)
Peter Robert Jones (21 April 196318 May 2012) was an English-born Australian musician. He replaced Paul Hester on drums for Crowded House in mid-1994. After the band split up in June 1996, he played in Deadstar with Caroline Kennedy and Nick Seymour, but did not return to Crowded House when they re-formed in 2006 about a year after Hester's death. Jones worked as a secondary teacher in Melbourne and on 18 May 2012, he died from brain cancer, aged 49. Biography Peter Robert Jones was born on 21 April 1963 in Liverpool. The Umbrellas (jazz Ensemble)
The Umbrellas are an Australian jazz ensemble formed in 1985 to play Peter Dasent's compositions. The group has published five full-length albums. All are still available, the first four as rereleases. Sydney, Australia based, the group's style has been described as unpredictable, quirky, surreal, and influenced by Italian film music. The band members improvise in order to flesh out the characters in each composition's "play". The Italian connection is reinforced by the ''Bravo Nino Rota'' tribute album and by founder Dasent himself. John Robert Gebert (born 1 April 1944, Adelaide) is an Australian jazz pianist. The Bobby Gebert Trio (with Jonathan Zwartz on double bass and Andrew Dickeson on drums) was nominated for the 1995 ARIA Award for Best Jazz Album with ''The Sculptor''.
