Jonathan Caldwell
Jonathan James Caldwell (born 10 June 1984) is a professional golfer from Clandeboye, Northern Ireland. Amateur career Caldwell attended the University of South Alabama from 2004 to 2008. He competed in the 2007 Walker Cup. Professional career Caldwell played on the 2009 European Tour, but did not perform well enough to retain his card. He played a number of events on the Challenge Tour in 2009, 2010 and 2011. From 2012 to 2017 he played mostly on the PGA EuroPro Tour, winning tournaments in 2016 and 2017. He finished fifth in the 2017 Order of Merit to earn a place on the Challenge Tour for 2018. In June 2021, Caldwell claimed his breakthrough win at the Scandinavian Mixed, an event co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour. Caldwell had not previously finished better than 5th on the European Tour. Bangor, County Down
Bangor ( ; ) is a city and seaside resort in County Down, Northern Ireland, on the southern side of Belfast Lough. European Amateur Team Championship
The European Amateur Team Championship is a European amateur team golf championship for men organised by the European Golf Association which was introduced in 1959. The championship was played in odd-numbered years from 1959 to 2007 and has been played annually since 2008 (with the exception of 2012). Format 1959–1965 Each team consisted of a minimum of six players, playing two rounds of stroke play, counting the four best scores for each team. The four best teams formed flight A, were the winner was determined by a round-robin system. 2008 Eisenhower Trophy
The 2008 Eisenhower Trophy took place 16–19 October at Royal Adelaide Golf Club and on the West course at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia. It was the 26th World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy and the second to be held in Australia. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 65 three-man teams. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. Each team played two rounds on the two courses. The leading teams played at The Grange Golf Club on the third day and at Royal Adelaide Golf Club on the final day. Scotland won their first Eisenhower Trophy, nine strokes ahead of the United States, who took the silver medal. Sweden took the bronze medal while France and Italy tied for fourth place. Eisenhower Trophy
The Eisenhower Trophy (World Men's Amateur Team Championships) is the biennial World Amateur Team Championship for men organized by the International Golf Federation. Since the tournament was first played in 1958, it is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President of the United States at the time, who was a keen amateur golfer. The equivalent competition for women is the Espirito Santo Trophy. Results The 1958 championship resulted in a tie. There was an 18-hole playoff which Australia won with a score of 222 to the United States 224. From 1958 to 2000 the teams had four players with the best three scores counting for each round. From 2002 the teams have been three players with two counting. The 2004, 2010 and 2012 championships were reduced to 54 holes because of bad weather. St Andrews Trophy
The St Andrews Trophy is a biennial men's team golf tournament contested between teams of amateur golfers representing Great Britain & Ireland and the Continent of Europe. It takes its name from St Andrews in Scotland. It was first played in 1956 and takes place in even-numbered years; Great Britain & Ireland plays in the United States in the Walker Cup in odd-numbered years. 2008 Palmer Cup
The 2008 Palmer Cup was held on 26–27 June 2008 on the Gailes Links in Irvine, North Ayrshire, Scotland. Europe won 14–10. Format On Thursday, there were four matches of four-ball in the morning, followed by eight singles matches in the afternoon. Four foursomes matches were played on the Friday morning with a further eight singles in the afternoon. In all, 24 matches were played. Each of the 24 matches was worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match was all square after the 18th hole, each side earned half a point toward their team total. Palmer Cup
The Arnold Palmer Cup is an annual team golf competition for college/university golfers. From 2018 it has been contested between a United States team and an International team representing the rest of the world. The teams consist of 12 men and 12 women. The teams are selected on the basis of nationality, not according to the location of the players' universities. The 2023 event will be held from June 10 to 12 at Laurel Valley Golf Club, near Ligonier, Pennsylvania. History From its foundation in 1997 until 2017 the event was only contested by men. From 1997 until 2002 the United States played Great Britain & Ireland while from 2003 to 2017 the United States played a European team.
