2008 Palmer Cup
The 2008 Palmer Cup was held on 26–27 June 2008 on the Gailes Links in Irvine, North Ayrshire, Scotland. Europe won 14–10. Format On Thursday, there were four matches of four-ball in the morning, followed by eight singles matches in the afternoon. Four foursomes matches were played on the Friday morning with a further eight singles in the afternoon. In all, 24 matches were played. Each of the 24 matches was worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match was all square after the 18th hole, each side earned half a point toward their team total. Glasgow Golf Club
Glasgow Golf Club, founded in May 1787, is the ninth oldest golf club in the world. It has changed location several times during its history, but has been based at Killermont in Bearsden since 21 May 1904. The Club is unusual in also having a links course, at Gailes, near Irvine, on the Ayrshire coast, some 35 miles away. Arnold Palmer Cup
The Arnold Palmer Cup is an annual team golf competition for college/university golfers. From 2018 it has been contested between a United States team and an International team representing the rest of the world. The teams consist of 12 men and 12 women. The teams are selected on the basis of nationality, not according to the location of the players' universities. The 2023 event will be held from June 10 to 12 at Laurel Valley Golf Club, near Ligonier, Pennsylvania. History From its foundation in 1997 until 2017 the event was only contested by men. From 1997 until 2002 the United States played Great Britain & Ireland while from 2003 to 2017 the United States played a European team. Michael Thompson (golfer)
} Michael Hayes Thompson (born April 16, 1985) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. He has won two tournaments on the PGA Tour, with the most recent one coming at the 2020 3M Open. Amateur career Thompson attended University High School in Tucson, Arizona from 1999 to 2003. While there he won the Class 4A state team championship in 2003, and was named the Arizona High School State Player of the Year in 2002 and 2003. Thompson attended Tulane University two seasons until they disbanded their golf team after Hurricane Katrina. Thompson then transferred to the University of Alabama. While playing on Alabama's golf team, Thompson was the 2008 SEC Player of the Year. Thompson was a finalist in the 2007 U.S. Amateur, but was defeated by Colt Knost 2 & 1.
