Jonas Schmidt
Jonas Tveje Bisgaard Schmidt is a Danish self-taught actor and comedian, best known for portraying Dolph the Fascist Hippo. Career Jonas Schmidt has appeared in numerous roles, mostly comedy however. He first gained fame, portraying the nerdy carseller Bruce, in the Danish Toyota commercials. He later gained fame as the extremely nerdy police officer, ''John Scmidt'' (a play on his real name) on the comedy television series "'' P.I.S.''". A character that suffered of many things, including low self-esteem, being ultra geeky and having difficulties with women. A role Jonas Schmidt later has portrayed many times, in different ways. As Dolph, the insane fascist hippo on Wulffmorgenthaler, Jonas Schmidt became a national celebrity. In 2005, Dolph was one of the most popular figures with the youth in Denmark. Dolph also known as Dolph the Fascist Hippo is a fictional character appearing in the Danish television show '' Dolph og Wulff med venner'' (Dolph and Wulff with friends), played by Danish actor Jonas Schmidt, who is otherwise known in Denmark from another popular comedy series, '' P.I.S.'', and a long-running series of Toyota commercials. ''WUMO'', formerly ''Wulffmorgenthaler'', is a webcomic and newspaper comic strip created by Danish writer/artist duo Mikael Wulff and Anders Morgenthaler. The name of the strip is a portmanteau created from the pair's surnames. The name was also given to a comedy TV series, broadcast on the Danish channel DR2 in 2005. The strip changed its name to 'WUMO' in June 2012. Publication history ''WUMO'' debuted in 2001 as a comic strip competition entry named ''Kalzone'', completed a few hours before the entry deadline. Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2007
Denmark participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with the song "Drama Queen" written by Peter Andersen, Simon Munk and Claus Christensen. The song was performed by DQ, which is the artistic name of singer and drag queen Peter Andersen. The Danish broadcaster DR organised the national final ''Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2007'' in order to select the Danish entry for the 2007 contest in Helsinki, Finland. The national selection consisted of two televised semi-finals, a radio wildcard selection and a televised final. In the final, the winner was selected by regional televoting. "Drama Queen" performed by DQ was the winner after gaining the most votes. Denmark competed in the semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 10 May 2007. Performing during the show in position 12, "Drama Queen" was not announced among the top 10 entries of the semi-final and therefore did not qualify to compete in the final. Dansk Melodi Grand Prix (), also known as Melodi Grand Prix or simply DMGP, is an annual music competition organised by the Danish public broadcaster Danmarks Radio (DR) since 1957, which determines the for the Eurovision Song Contest. The festival has produced three Eurovision winners and fourteen top-five placings. History With the introduction of a semi-final at the 2004 contest, and due to Denmark's absence from the 2003 contest, Denmark's 2004 representative, Tomas Thordarson, had to take part in the semi-final.
