John Mitchels GAA (Kerry)
John Mitchels GAA are a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. They are based in the Boherbee and Camp area of Tralee. They play in Division 1 of the county league and in the Kerry Senior Football Championship. Club history Before 1927 only one team represented Tralee in the Kerry Senior Football County Championship and they were Tralee John Mitchels. As this team was so successful the Kerry County Board requested that it should be divided into three individual teams representing, Boherbee, Rock St. and Strand St, this is where the John Mitchels, Austin Stacks and Kerins O'Rahilly's clubs came from. The John Mitchels club since 1927 are thought to be one of the most successful clubs in Kerry. Between 1959 and 1963 they won five Senior Football titles in a row, the only team to do so in the history of the Kerry County Championship. Paudie Sheehy
Paudie Sheehy (1932–1967) was an Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with John Mitchels and the Kerry county team from 1953 to 1962. He captained Kerry on two occasions. Early life Sheehy was the son of footballer John Joe and a brother of Seán Óg and Niall. Career Youth Sheehy first lined out for Kerry at a minor level in 1949. He won a Munster Minor Football Championship medal after a final win over Cork. Sheehy's side later qualified for the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship where they faced Armagh. A 1–07 to 1–05 win saw the title go to the Orchard County. Sheehy played with Kerry minor again in 1950. He won a Munster Minor Football Championship medal after a final win over Limerick. Seán Óg Sheehy
Seán Óg Sheehy (born 24 May 1939) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played as a left wing-back at senior level for the Kerry county team. Sheehy's brothers Niall and Paudie also played with Kerry while his father, John Joe Sheehy, also captained Kerry to All-Ireland glory. Club At club level Sheehy won five consecutive county club championship winners' medals with John Mitchels from 1959-63. He won a sixth title in 1966. He also played hurling with the club. During his collage days he also won a Cork Senior Football Championship title with UCC in 1960. Underage Sheehy played both football and hurling with Kerry in the 1950s but had little success in either code. Timmy O'Dowd
Timothy O'Dowd (born 1963) is an Irish retired Gaelic footballer. His league and championship career with the Kerry senior team spanned six seasons from 1983 to 1988. Born in Tralee, County Kerry, O'Dowd was born into a strong Gaelic football family. His father, Tom, enjoyed a distinguished career with the John Mitchels club while he also played for Kerry at minor, junior and senior levels. O'Dowd first appeared for the John Mitchels club at underage levels, winning a county under-21 championship medal in 1983. He had made his senior debut as a fifteen year-old in 1978, however, he enjoyed little success in this grade. O'Dowd also lined out with the Thomas Davis club in Dublin. Mick Morris (Gaelic Footballer)
Mick Morris (born 1943) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer and golfer. He played for his local club John Mitchels and was a member of the Kerry senior inter-county team from 1964 until 1969. He went on to represent Ireland in golf, winning the Irish Close Championship in 1978. Club Morris played with John Mitchels club during a golden era for the Tralee side. He was part of the side that won five Kerry Senior Football Championship titles in a row between 1959-63. He won another title in 1966. Paddy Kelly (Kerry Gaelic Footballer)
Paddy Kelly is a footballer from County Kerry. He won an All-Ireland Medal with Kerry in 2004, and also won an Munster Minor Championship in 2001. He played club football with a number of different clubs, specifically Ballylongford, John Mitchels and Listowel Emmets. Underage Kelly first played with Kerry at minor level in 2001. Wins over Waterford and Corkseen allowed Kelly to pick up a Munster medal. Kerry later lost to Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final. He later linked up with the Kerry Under 21 team. In 2002 he was Right Half Forward as Kerry overcame Clare in the Munster final. They later lost to Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final. He was a regular again in 2003. Anthony Gleeson
Anthony Gleeson was a dual player from Tralee, County Kerry. He played at full back for most of his career. Gleeson was unlucky not to have won any senior honors with Kerry, he missed out on the Munster Championship win in 1991 and despite playing in the first round in 1996 did not play another game and therefore did not receive a Munster medal. He did win a Munster Under 21 Championship in 1988. He also played underage hurling with Kerry in the late 80's, he was captain of the team in 1987 when they won the Leinster Minor B Championship. He gave up hurling at a young age to focus on football. He also played with the Kerry Vocational Schools team in the late 80's winning 2 All-Ireland Vocational Schools Championships in 1986 and 1987. Tommy Doyle (Gaelic Footballer)
Tommy Doyle (born 3 March 1956 in Chicago, Illinois) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for the Annascaul GAA club and at senior level for the Kerry county team in the 1970s and 1980s. Jackie Ryan
Jackie (John) Ryan (11 August 1904 – 17 February 1954) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who primarily played as a Half Forward as well as in the Full Forward line for the Kerry senior team between 1924 and 1934. Ryan won six All-Ireland Senior Football medals with Kerry over his ten-year career, and received favorable reviews. Ryan was born in Ardfert, before moving to Pembroke Street and later to Dawson's Terrace, Rock Street, Tralee. He died in Tralee in 1954. Ryan married Agnes Mary (Aggie) Sheehy in Tralee on 25 September 1928. They had one child who died in infancy. Family Ryan's parents were Christopher Ryan, a sergeant in the Royal Irish Constabulary, and Mary Josephine McDonnell. Both Christopher and Mary Josephine were from Cork. Dom O'Donnell was a Gaelic footballer from Tralee, County Kerry. He played Gaelic football with his local club John Mitchels, and was a member of the Kerry senior inter-county team during the 1960s.
