Paudie Sheehy
Paudie Sheehy (1932–1967) was an Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with John Mitchels and the Kerry county team from 1953 to 1962. He captained Kerry on two occasions. Early life Sheehy was the son of footballer John Joe and a brother of Seán Óg and Niall. Career Youth Sheehy first lined out for Kerry at a minor level in 1949. He won a Munster Minor Football Championship medal after a final win over Cork. Sheehy's side later qualified for the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship where they faced Armagh. A 1–07 to 1–05 win saw the title go to the Orchard County. Sheehy played with Kerry minor again in 1950. He won a Munster Minor Football Championship medal after a final win over Limerick. John Mitchels GAA (Kerry)
John Mitchels GAA are a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. They are based in the Boherbee and Camp area of Tralee. They play in Division 1 of the county league and in the Kerry Senior Football Championship. Club history Before 1927 only one team represented Tralee in the Kerry Senior Football County Championship and they were Tralee John Mitchels. As this team was so successful the Kerry County Board requested that it should be divided into three individual teams representing, Boherbee, Rock St. and Strand St, this is where the John Mitchels, Austin Stacks and Kerins O'Rahilly's clubs came from. The John Mitchels club since 1927 are thought to be one of the most successful clubs in Kerry. Munster Senior Football Championship
The Munster Senior Football Championship, known simply as the Munster Championship and shortened to Munster SFC, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county Gaelic football competition in the province of Munster, and has been contested every year, bar one, since the 1888 championship. The final, currently held on the fourth Saturday in June, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during May and June, and the results determine which team receives the Munster Cup. 1953–54 National Football League (Ireland)
The 1953–54 National Football League was the 23rd staging of the National Football League (NFL), an annual Gaelic football tournament for the Gaelic Athletic Association county teams of Ireland. Carlow reached their only final to date, and opened well, leading Mayo by 0-2 to 0-1 after ten minutes. But then the 'flying doctor' Pádraig Carney, who came home from America for the game, levelled before Tommy Langan punched a goal from a Carney centre in the 26th minute. Mayo's second goal from M. Jas Murphy
James Murphy (30 May 1923 – 1 December 2021), better known as Jas Murphy, was an Irish Gaelic footballer. He played at club level with Garda and at inter-county level with the Cork and Kerry senior football teams. He captained Kerry to the 1953 All-Ireland Championship. Career Murphy first played Gaelic football with the Kerins O'Rahilly's club in Tralee. He later lined out with the Garda club in Cork and was part of their 1950 County Championship-winning team. Murphy first appeared on the inter-county scene after declaring for the Cork senior football team. After two seasons with his adopted team, he subsequently joined the Kerry senior football team in 1949. Murphy won the first of two Munster Championship titles in 1950 and assumed the team captaincy for the 1953 All-Ireland final after Paudie Sheehy was dropped from the team. The 1952–53 National Football League was the 22nd staging of the National Football League (NFL), an annual Gaelic football tournament for the Gaelic Athletic Association county teams of Ireland. Cork Athletic Grounds
The Cork Athletic Grounds was a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) stadium where major hurling and football matches were played. Situated in the Ballintemple area of Cork in Ireland, it was the home of Cork GAA between 1904 and 1974. The stadium was demolished in 1974 and replaced by Páirc Uí Chaoimh. History In late 1902 an attempt was made by the Cork County Board of the GAA to provide Cork city with a dedicated athletic stadium. A new company, the Cork Athletic Grounds Committee Ltd., was established under the chairmanship of James Crosbie. The county board invested £30 in the venture and a member of the board was appointed as a director.
