John M. Clarke
John Montague Clarke (October 1854 – May 25, 1936) was a lumber merchant, contractor and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 5th Kings in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1904 to 1908 as a Liberal. He was born in Bedeque, Prince Edward Island, the son of Theophilus Desbrisay Clarke. After completing his education in Bedeque, Clarke worked for John R. Calhoun. He then lived in Colorado for five years before returning to the island and opening his own lumber company in Kensington. In 1877, he married Sarah M. Reeves. Clarke worked as a general building contractor for several years. He also was a member of the town councillor for Summerside Town Council and of the Summerside school board. He served in the province's Executive Council as a minister without portfolio in 1908. The Prince Edward Island Liberal Party (officially the ''Prince Edward Island Liberal Association'') is a political party in the province of Prince Edward Island, Canada. The PEI Liberals are affiliated with the federal Liberal Party of Canada. History The party was created when PEI was a British colony by reformers who agitated for the system of responsible government. This was granted by the British crown to the colony in 1851. George Coles was its dominant figure in its first decades. John R
John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) Later rock music disc jockeys, such as Alan Freed and Wolfman Jack, mimicked Richbourg's practice of using speech that simulated African-American street language of the mid-twentieth century. Kensington, Prince Edward Island
Kensington is a Canadian town located in Prince County, Prince Edward Island. It is northeast of the city of Summerside. In 2021, its population was 1,812. History The area was first known as Five Lanes End, as roads from five different communities converged at the point. It was renamed Barrett's Cross in 1824 after an early settler who established an inn in the area. In 1862, the town was renamed after Kensington Palace in London and it became a town after the Prince Edward Island Railway's mainline from Charlottetown to Summerside curved through the community.
