John Hudson (theatre Director)
John Hudson (born January 25, 1962) is a Canadian theatre producer and director, and also a politician living in Edmonton, Alberta. He ran to represent the constituency of Edmonton-McClung for the Alberta Party in the 2012 Alberta general election and the 2015 Alberta general election. Early life and education Hudson was born in Campbellton, New Brunswick to Mary Hudson (Urquhart) and Dr. Aubrey Hudson. The family moved from Canada’s east coast in 1965 when John was three years old and settled in Calgary, Alberta. John grew up with his parents, grandmother and three sisters. His mother was a stockbroker, and his father was a general pathologist who taught at the University of Calgary and was on staff at the Grace and General Hospitals. Alberta
Alberta ( ) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is part of Western Canada and is one of the three prairie provinces. Edmonton-McClung is a provincial electoral district in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The district was created in 1993 and is named after Nellie McClung. The current MLA is Lorne Dach of the NDP, who was first elected in 2015. History The electoral district was created in the 1993 boundary redistribution out of the southern portion of Edmonton-Meadowlark. 2012 Alberta General Election
The 2012 Alberta general election was held on April 23, 2012, to elect members of the 28th Legislative Assembly of Alberta. A Senate nominee election was called for the same day. During the 2011 Progressive Conservative Association leadership election, eventual winner Alison Redford stated that if she became Premier she intended to pass legislation setting a fixed election date. After taking office, her government introduced a bill relating to the timing of elections, which was passed on December 6, 2011. Unlike other fixed election date legislation in Canada, the 2011 Election Amendment Act fixes the election to a three-month period, between March 1 and May 31 in the fourth calendar year. 2015 Alberta General Election
The 2015 Alberta general election was held on May 5, 2015, following a request of Premier Jim Prentice to the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Donald Ethell to dissolve the Legislative Assembly on April 7, 2015. This election elected members to the 29th Alberta Legislature. It was only the fourth time in provincial history that saw a change of government, and was the last provincial election for both the Alberta Progressive Conservative and Wildrose Parties, which would merge in 2017 to form the United Conservative Party (although each would run a token candidate in the 2019 election). Campbellton, New Brunswick
Campbellton is a city in Restigouche County, New Brunswick, Canada. The Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award (also known as the Sterling Award) is a local Edmonton, Alberta award presented annually which honours excellence in theatre. The award covers a number of categories, including production, performance, direction, writing, choreography, and design, as well as a special award recognizing achievement in theatre administration. Named after Elizabeth Sterling Haynes, who helped establish and nurture Edmonton professional theatre in the early 20th century, the award was established in 1987.
