John Herring (athlete)
John Bryan Herring (10 April 1935 – 7 October 2003), was a British people, British Track and field athletics, athlete who ran in the 1964 Summer Olympic Games. He was assistant director of the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, a member of the London Marathon organising team and a long-time member of Blackheath and Bromley Harriers Athletic Club. Competitive career He was a member of Blackheath and Bromley Harriers Athletic Club, Blackheath Harriers. In 1964 he was ranked fourth in the UK behind Mike Wiggs, Fergus Murray and Bruce Tulloh. He represented Britain over 5000 metres in the 1964 Summer Olympics when Tulloh withdrew with measles. He remained a member of Blackheath Harriers for 50 years and in 2015 still holds the club record for Men Masters (over 40) mile at 4.23.3 set on 30 July 1975. Lewisham
Lewisham () is an area of southeast London, England, south of Charing Cross. It is the principal area of the London Borough of Lewisham, and was within the Historic counties of England, historic county of Kent until 1889. It is identified in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in Greater London, with a large shopping centre and street market.
