John Gorman (entertainer)
John Gorman (born 4 January 1936), is an English comedian, vocalist and comedy musician. The Scaffold After grammar school, Gorman worked as a Telecommunications Engineer. He was the founder of the comedy music group The Scaffold, best known for their 1968 hit single ''Lily the Pink'', and its successor the band Grimms – the 'G' in Gorman providing the 'G' in Grimms. He also made a comedy musical album for DJM Records, ''Go Man Gorman''. During the 1970s he made brief film appearances in Frankie Howerd's medieval set farce ''Up the Chastity Belt'' (1971), ''Melody'' (1971), Terry Gilliam's ''Jabberwocky'' (1977), where he is credited as 'second peasant', and ''The Music Machine'' (1979) as a newsagent. Jabberwocky (film)
''Jabberwocky'' is a 1977 British fantasy comedy film co-written and directed by Terry Gilliam. Jabberwocky stars Michael Palin as Dennis, a cooper's apprentice, who is forced through clumsy, often slapstick misfortunes to hunt a terrible dragon after the death of his father. The film's title is taken from the nonsense poem "Jabberwocky" from Lewis Carroll's ''Through the Looking-Glass'' (1871). The film is Gilliam's solo directorial debut, after he co-directed ''Monty Python and the Holy Grail'' with Terry Jones in 1975. The film received a mixed response from critics and audiences. Liverpool Poets
The Liverpool poets are a number of influential 1960s poets from Liverpool, England, influenced by 1950s Beat poetry. They were involved in the 1960s Liverpool scene that gave rise to The Beatles. Their work is characterised by its directness of expression, simplicity of language, suitability for live performance and concern for contemporary subjects and references. There is often humour, but the full range of human experience and emotion is addressed. Poets The poets most commonly associated with this label are Adrian Henri, Roger McGough and Brian Patten. They were featured in a 1967 book ''The Liverpool Scene'' edited by Edward Lucie-Smith, with a blurb by Ginsberg and published by Donald Carroll. Slapstick Festival
The Slapstick Festival is an annual event in Bristol, United Kingdom. During the festival, which was created in 2005 by Bristol Silents, there are screenings of silent, classic, and visual comedy films. The intent of the festival is to introduce these films to a modern audience and bring them to life for a new generation of viewers. Most silent films are presented with musicians performing the score live, introductions by special guests, and various special events throughout the festival. The festival also produces one-off events throughout the year, such as the ''Tiswas'' reunion show at St George's on 16 April 2022, which reunited Bob Carolgees, John Gorman, Sally James and Chris Tarrant from the 1970s children's Saturday morning television show. Birkenhead Park
Birkenhead Park is a major public park located in the centre of Birkenhead, Merseyside, England. It was designed by Joseph Paxton and opened on 5 April 1847. It is generally acknowledged as the first publicly funded civic park in the world. The park was designated a conservation area in 1977 and declared a Grade I listed landscape by English Heritage in 1995. The park influenced the design of Central Park in New York and Sefton Park in Liverpool. The park contains many listed buildings. The Grand Entrance was designed by Lewis Hornblower and is at the northeast corner; it consists of three arches flanked by lodges and is in Ionic style. The Swiss Bridge, a pedestrian span of stringer construction, is unique as being the only covered bridge of traditional wooden construction in the United Kingdom. Bridgnorth is a town in Shropshire, England. The River Severn splits it into High Town and Low Town, the upper town on the right bank and the lower on the left bank of the River Severn. The population at the 2011 Census was 12,079. History Bridgnorth is named after a bridge over the River Severn, which was built further north than an earlier bridge at Quatford. Christopher John Tarrant, (born 10 October 1946) is an English broadcaster, television personality and former radio DJ. He presented the ITV children's television show '' Tiswas'' from 1974 to 1981, and the game show '' Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?'' from 1998 to 2014. He was a Capital Radio host from 1984 to 2004. Tarrant received an OBE in 2004 for his charity work, in particular his campaigning on behalf of disadvantaged children.
