John Gore Jones
John Gore Jones (1820–1868) was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Politics On 14 January 1862, St. George Richard Gore, member for Warwick, resigned to contest a ministerial by-election after being made Secretary of Public Lands and Works. However, he was defeated by John Gore Jones who was elected at the resulting by-election on 4 February 1862. Jones held Warwick until 10 June 1863 (the 1863 election). He contested the seats of Brisbane and West Moreton in the 1863 election but was unsuccessful. Under the Additional Members Act 1864, six new electorates were created: Clermont, Kennedy, Maryborough, Mitchell, Rockhampton and Warrego. By-elections to fill the new seats were held on 1 February 1865 (Maryborough and Rockhampton), on 18 March 1865 (Clermont and Kennedy) and on 25 March 1865 (Mitchell and Warrego). Electoral District Of Warwick
Warwick was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1860 to 2001. It centred on the town of Warwick. The electorate was represented by two Premiers: Arthur Morgan and Thomas Joseph Byrnes. It was also the seat of former Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg. West Moreton was the name of two incarnations of an Queensland Legislative Assembly electoral districts, electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. History The original district, named for the West Moreton, region it covered, took in all of the Brisbane River catchment area as well as Ipswich, Queensland, Ipswich and Laidley, Queensland, Laidley, bordering New South Wales to the south. It elected three members from 1860 to 1873 and one member from 1873 until its abolition in 1878. The district was re-created in 1932 to take in an area west of Brisbane. It was abolished in 1949. Warrego is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. The electorate lies in the extreme southwest of Queensland, running along the western part of the border with New South Wales. It includes the large town of Dalby, as well as the rural centres of Surat, Roma, Tara, Charleville, Augathella, St George and Cunnamulla. History The electoral district of Warrego was created by the ''Additional Members Act of 1864'' which introduced six new single-member electorates. A by-election was held to fill the seat. The nomination date was 18 March 1865 and the election was held on 25 March 1865. Warrego was, as with the rest of the state, held by independents and loose groupings of members around the government of the day until the first years of the twentieth century, when the partisan system took hold.
