John Fordyce (MP)
John Cornelius Fordyce (1735–1809) was Member of Parliament for New Romney from 1796 to 1802, and for Berwick-Upon-Tweed from 1802 to 5 April 1803. He was the son of Thomas Fordyce of Ayton, an Edinburgh lawyer and Elizabeth Whitefoord, daughter of Adam Whitefoord, 1st Baronet. Fordyce became a banker and by the age of 24 was a Director of the Royal Bank. His own bank, Fordyce, Malcolm and Co., collapsed in 1772. He entered Parliament in 1796, sitting for New Romney until 1802 and then Berwick-Upon-Tweed until 1803. He married Catharine, the daughter of Sir William Maxwell, 3rd Baronet There have been several baronetcies created for persons with the surname Maxwell, all of them in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia. Sir Alexander Allan, 1st Baronet
Sir Alexander Allan, 1st Baronet (c. 1764 – 14 September 1820) was a British painter and politician. He joined the East India Company as a cadet in 1779 and had been promoted to captain when he served in the Fourth Mysore War in 1798 as Deputy Quartermaster-General. He painted numerous water colours of the campaign. On his return to England he was elected Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP) for Berwick-upon-Tweed (UK Parliament constituency), Berwick-upon-Tweed from 1803 to 1806 and 1807 to 1820. He was a List of East India Company directors, director of the East India Company from 1814 to 1817 and 1819 to his death. He was made a baronet on 18 September 1819, of Kingsgate, Kent, Kingsgate in the County of Kent. The title became extinct upon his death in 1820. He never married. Sir John Callander, 1st Baronet
Colonel Sir John Callander, 1st Baronet (September 1739 – 2 April 1812) was a Scottish soldier and politician. Callander was the son of Alexander Callander, of Westertown, Stirlingshire, and Margaret Ramsay, daughter of David Ramsay. He was a Colonel in the British Army and also sat as Member of Parliament for Berwick-upon-Tweed from 1795 to 1802 and again from 1806 to 1807. In 1798 he was created a baronet, of Westertown in the County of Stirling and of Crichton and Preston Hall and Elphinstone in the Counties of East and Mid Lothian. Sir Manasseh Masseh Lopes, 1st Baronet (27 January 1755 – 26 March 1831), of Maristow in the parish of Tamerton Foliot, Devon, was a British Member of Parliament and borough-monger. Parliamentary career Born in Jamaica, Lopes was a member of a family of rich Portuguese Sephardic Jews, who allegedly made their fortune as sugar planters and slave-owners in Jamaica before he migrated to Great Britain. In 1798 he acquired Maristow House near Roborough in Devon, as a new family seat. He also had a town house in Fitzroy Square, Westminster. He had also for many years been investing part of his fortune in acquiring influence in a number of parliamentary boroughs. By the law as it stood at that period, no member of the Jewish religion could be elected to Parliament. (Many Christian denominations were similarly prohibited.)
