John Burke (1990s Pitcher)
John Chandler Burke (born February 9, 1970) is a former American baseball player who was a pitcher for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB) in 1996 and 1997. Early years He was born in Durango, Colorado. He graduated from Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village (suburban Denver), where he was a standout high school baseball player for the Cherry Creek Bruins. College career Burke accepted an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where he played for coach Joe Arnold's Florida Gators baseball team from 1990 to 1992. During his three seasons as a Gator, he set numerous team pitching records, including most career strikeouts and most career strikeouts per inning. 1991 College Baseball All-America Team
An All-American team is an honorary sports team composed of the best amateur players of a specific season for each position—who in turn are given the honorific "All-America" and typically referred to as "All-American athletes", or simply "All-Americans".
