John Bean (cinematographer)
John Wayne Bean ACS (12 June 1963 – 18 August 2011) was an Australian cinematographer who worked at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) for over 20 years. Bean was born in Rockhampton, Queensland, to Judy (née Suthers) and Colin, a carpenter. He had a younger sister, Tammy. After graduating from Glenmore State High School, he initially studied graphic design at the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane, before he majored in film and television and earned a Diploma in Arts in 1983. In 1984, Bean started working at regional television station RTQ7 Rockhampton. He then moved to DDQ10 Toowoomba two years later. From 1989 to 1994, he worked in the Canberra Press Gallery. In 1993, while working as a cameraman for ''Landline'', Bean became friends with reporter Pip Courtney. They married on 23 January 1999. The Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1958 for the purpose of providing a forum for Australian cinematographers to further develop their skills through mutual co-operation. Location Its National Headquarters and clubhouse is located in North Sydney. Mission The ACS states the following aims: *To keep members informed about the latest technology with new equipment demonstrations and ideas through meetings and seminars. *To further the advancement of Cinematography in all fields and give due recognition to the outstanding work performed by Australian Cinematographers. *To provide a forum for Cinematographers to meet with other members of the industry to discuss and exchange ideas, promote friendship and better understanding of each other's industry role. Australian Story
''Australian Story'' is a national weekly current affairs and documentary style television series which is broadcast on ABC Television. It is produced specifically by the ABC News and Current Affairs Department. The program first aired on 29 May 1996, and since then it has continued to profile various Australian people, typically ones with a diverse background or notable reputation. ''Australian Story'' tends to explore themes such as 'heroic achievement', 'taking a stand' and 'human weakness'. The episodes are known to frame people or situations in a sympathetic light.
