Johann Siegwald Dahl
Johann Siegwald Dahl (16 August 1827, Dresden - 15 June 1902, Dresden) was a German animal painter. Life and work He was one of nine children born to the Norwegian painter, Johan Christian Dahl and his first wife Emilie. Of those, only he and one sister survived to adulthood. His first art lessons came from his father. Later, he studied animal painting with . After three more years attending the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, he paid a visit to London to study with Edwin Landseer; another famous animal painter. He also spent some time in Paris. Upon his father's death in 1857, he donated a collection of his studies and drawings to the National Gallery in Oslo and the . He became an honorary member of the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in 1864. His best known works involve Norwegian motifs, inspired by his father's works and numerous visits to Norway, but he also created some portraits. Project Runeberg ( sv, Projekt Runeberg) is a digital cultural archive initiative that publishes free electronic versions of books significant to the culture and history of the Nordic countries. Patterned after Project Gutenberg, it was founded by Lars Aronsson and colleagues at Linköping University and began archiving Nordic-language literature in December 1992. As of 2015 it had accomplished digitization to provide graphical facsimiles of old works such as the ''Nordisk familjebok'', and had accomplished, in whole or in part, the text extractions and copyediting of these as well as esteemed Latin works and English translations from Nordic authors, and sheet music and other texts of cultural interest. Anders Sandøe Ørsted Bull (13 September 1817 – 15 April 1907) was a Norwegian civil servant and government minister. He served as acting Minister of the Army in 1875 (twice), 1881 and 1884. He also served as mayor of Oslo in 1877 and 1878. Background He was born at Bergen in Hordaland, Norway. He was a son of Chief Justice Georg Jacob Bull (1785-1854) and Barbara Albertine Ørsted (1783-1865). His mother was a sister of Danish physicist Hans Christian Ørsted and of Danish jurist Anders Sandøe Ørsted. The Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister (, ''Old Masters Gallery'') in Dresden, Germany, displays around 750 paintings from the 15th to the 18th centuries.
