Joe Lennon
Joseph Finbarr Lennon (1934 – 23 November 2016) was a Northern Irish Gaelic football manager, player and sports broadcaster who featured on ''The Sunday Game''. Playing career His league and championship career with the Down senior team spanned seventeen seasons from 1954 to 1970. Lennon captained Down to the All-Ireland title in 1968. Ulster Senior Football Championship
The Ulster Senior Football Championship is an inter-county competition for Gaelic football teams in the province of Ulster. It is organised by the Ulster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and begins in early May. The final is usually played on the third Sunday in July. All nine Ulster counties participate. It is regarded as hardest to win of the four provincial football championships. At a referee conference in January 2015, David Coldrick said about officiating in the competition: "Ulster makes or breaks you. It can be a graveyard. The games are different. There is an extra dimension and intensity, and you must be at your best. If you aren't prepared physically and mentally, the chances are you will be caught out. Peter Darby
Peter J. Darby (1938 – 18 December 2022) was an Irish Gaelic footballer and hurler who played at club level with Trim and at inter-county level with the Meath senior teams. He usually lined out as a defender. Playing career Darby enjoyed a hugely successful club career as a dual player with Trim. In 1962 he captained the team from full-back to their only Keegan Cup triumph, while he also won five Meath SHC titles. After a period with the Meath minor team, Darby made his senior team debut as a 19-year-old against Dublin in 1958. He was one of the key figures on the team that made a breakthrough and won the Leinster Championship in 1964. Darby was at left corner-back for the All-Ireland final defeat by Galway. He was named captain of the team the following year and was again at left corner-back when Meath beat Cork in the 1967 All-Ireland final. Noel Tierney
Noel Tierney (born 2 February 1942 in Milltown, County Galway) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for his local club Milltown and at senior level for the Galway county team that won three consecutive All-Ireland Senior Football Championships from 1964 until 1966 inclusive. Tierney was a member of the Galway All-Ireland Minor Football Championship winning team of 1960, a team which included a number of future three-in-a-row panelists. He won a National Football League with Galway in 1965, as well as winning two Railway Cup medals with Connacht in 1967 and again in 1969, when he captained the team. He won two Cú Chulainn Awards (an early All Stars Award) and he also won Texaco Footballer of the Year in 1964. In 1993, he was inducted into the Galway Football Hall of Fame. The title is frequently honorary, but in some cases the captain may have significant responsibility for strategy and teamwork while the game is in progress on the field. In either case, it is a position that indicates honor and respect from one's teammates – recognition as a leader by one's peers. Enda Colleran
Enda Colleran (May 1942 – 8 April 2004) was an Irish Gaelic footballer and manager who played for the Mountbellew–Moylough club and at senior level for the Galway county team. Career A native of Moylough, Colleran's Gaelic football prowess was first noticed on the national stage in 1960 when he won an All-Ireland Minor Championship medal with Galway and a Hogan Cup medal with St Jarlath's College. Having made his Galway senior debut in 1961, he went on to play in four successive All-Ireland senior finals between 1963 and 1966, winning the latter three against Kerry (twice) and Meath. Colleran also picked up two Sigerson Cup medals with University College Galway and became only the fourth Connacht man to captain his province to Railway Cup success when they beat Ulster in the 1967 final. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. Presently, Ulster hold the record for the most football Railway Cup wins with 30, while Munster has won the most hurling titles with 43. 1966 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The 1966 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 80th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 1 May 1966 and ended on 25 September 1966. Galway entered the championship as the defending champions in search of a third successive championship title. On 25 September 1966, Galway won the championship following a 1-10 to 0-7 defeat of Meath in the All-Ireland final. This was their seventh All-Ireland title overall and their third championship in succession. Fermanagh's P. T. Treacy was the championship's top scorer with 4-12.
