This is a list of players who have captained a winning team to the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the premier competition in Gaelic football. The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship is an annual series of games usually played in Ireland during the summer and early autumn, and organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Contested by the top inter-county football teams in Ireland, the tournament has taken place every year since 1887—except in 1888, when the competition was not played due to a tour of the United States by would-be competitors. Captain (Gaelic Games)
A captain of a Gaelic games team, sometimes known as a ''skipper'', is a player who, during the course of a match as well as before and after it, has several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of his teammates. Tradition means that some teams rotate the captaincy annually, though others may adopt a permanent captain. As well as being an onfield leader, a captain takes the coin toss and raises the trophy when this is the game's prize. Responsibilities The captain leads the team out onto the pitch. Before the start of a match, a coin toss between captains of the opposing teams is used to determine which end of the ground each team will kick to. Ahead of the All-Ireland final, the captain is the first member of the team to shake the hand of dignitaries who may be attending the game, for example the president of the GAA or the president of Ireland. Jim Power (Gaelic Footballer)
James Power was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a centre-forward for the Cork senior team. Power made his first appearance for the team during the 1889 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen for the next two seasons. During that time he won one All-Ireland medal and one Munster medal. In 1890 Power captained the team to the All-Ireland title. Con Fitzgerald
Cornelius Fitzgerald (2 August 1872 – 14 December 1953) was an Irish Gaelic footballer. His championship career with the Limerick senior team lasted several seasons in the 1890s. Fitzgerald had his greatest success on the inter-county scene with Limerick during the 1896 championship. He captained the team that year and won his sole All-Ireland medal that year as Limerick defeated Louth in the final. Fitzgerald also won a Munster medal that year. Arravale Rovers GAA ( ga, Fánaithe Gleann Árann) is Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Tipperary, Ireland. Based in the town of Tipperary, it competes at senior level in Tipperary GAA county and divisional hurling and Gaelic football championships and leagues. Now part of the West Division of Tipperary GAA, it formerly played in the South Division Up to 1930. The 1895 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final was the eighth All-Ireland Final and the deciding match of the 1895 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, an inter-county Gaelic football tournament for the top teams in Ireland. As counties were represented in that era by their champion clubs, Tipperary was represented by Arravale Rovers while Pierce O'Mahony's club from Navan played for Meath. Tipp won, with all four of its points scored by Willie Ryan. The referee later admitted that he should have not awarded one of Tipperary's points, but Meath sportingly did not ask for a replay. It was Tipperary's second All-Ireland football title following success in 1889. John Kennedy (Dublin Gaelic Footballer)
John Kennedy was an Irish Gaelic footballer. His championship career at senior level with the Dublin county team lasted four seasons from 1891 until 1894. Kennedy first played competitive football with the Young Irelands club. He won four successive county senior championship medals with the club between 1891 and 1894. Young Irelands represented Dublin in the championship, with Kennedy making his inter-county debut during the 1891 championship.
