Jewell Obert Waugh (June 13, 1910 – November 16, 2006) was an American politician who served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1967 to 1973. Iowa House Of Representatives
The Iowa House of Representatives is the lower house of the Iowa General Assembly, the upper house being the Iowa Senate. There are 100 seats in the Iowa House of Representatives, representing 100 single-member districts across the state, formed by dividing the 50 Senate districts in half. Each district has a population of approximately 30,464 . The House of Representatives meets at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines. Unlike the upper house, the Iowa Senate, state House representatives serve two-year terms with the whole chamber up for re-election in even-numbered years. There are no term limits for the House. James Middleswart
James Ira Middleswart (April 8, 1912 – August 5, 1993) was an American politician. James Middleswart was born to parents David and Eva Morgan Middleswart in Indianola, Iowa, on April 8, 1912. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1930, studied business at Simpson College until 1932, and subsequently became a farmer. Middleswart was a soil district commissioner and district secretary before winning his first election to the Iowa House of Representatives in 1966. Middleswart held the District 27 seat for two terms, won reelection in District 92 in 1970, and occupied the District 93 seat from 1973 to 1979. Lyons, Nebraska
Lyons is a city in Burt County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 851 in the 2010 census. The city is named after its founder. History The first settlers of Lyons came in the summer of 1866. The fertile soil of the Logan Valley, combined with the commercial promise provided by access to the railroad after 1881, assured the life of the town. Incorporated in 1884, the village was named for Waldo Lyon, a prominent citizen upon whose land the plots were laid out. Residents have continued to abide by a provision in Lyons' deed stipulating that liquor not be sold within the town at risk of forfeit of the property. The Lyons Roller Mill was erected in 1869. The three-story structure was powered by water from a dam built across Logan Creek just west of the town, and was in operation until 1931. West Branch is a city in Cedar and Johnson counties in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 2,509 as of the 2020 census. It is the birthplace of the only American president born in Iowa, Herbert Hoover. The Johnson County portion of West Branch is part of the Iowa City, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area. History West Branch was laid out in 1869 by Joseph Steer. It was incorporated in 1875. The city was first settled chiefly by Quakers from Ohio. Its name is derived from the meeting place of the West Branch Quakers, and the location of the city on the west branch of the Wapsinonoc Creek. Most of Main Street is part of the West Branch Commercial Historic District. Before the American Civil War, areas in and around West Branch were stops of the Underground Railroad.
