James Middleswart
James Ira Middleswart (April 8, 1912 – August 5, 1993) was an American politician. James Middleswart was born to parents David and Eva Morgan Middleswart in Indianola, Iowa, on April 8, 1912. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1930, studied business at Simpson College until 1932, and subsequently became a farmer. Middleswart was a soil district commissioner and district secretary before winning his first election to the Iowa House of Representatives in 1966. Middleswart held the District 27 seat for two terms, won reelection in District 92 in 1970, and occupied the District 93 seat from 1973 to 1979. Indianola is a city in Warren County, Iowa, United States, located south of downtown Des Moines, Iowa. The population was 15,833 at the time of the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Warren County. Indianola is home to the National Balloon Classic, a nine-day hot air balloon festival held annually in the summer, the Des Moines Metro Opera, a world renowned major American Summer Opera Festival, and Simpson College. The Iowa House of Representatives is the lower house of the Iowa General Assembly, the upper house being the Iowa Senate. There are 100 seats in the Iowa House of Representatives, representing 100 single-member districts across the state, formed by dividing the 50 Senate districts in half.
