Jenifer Lewis
Jenifer Jeanette Lewis (born January 25, 1957) is an American actress. She began her career appearing in Broadway musicals and worked as a back-up singer for Bette Midler before appearing in films ''Beaches'' (1988) and '' Sister Act'' (1992). Lewis is known for playing roles of mothers in the films ''What's Love Got to Do With It'' (1993), '' Poetic Justice'' (1993), '' The Preacher's Wife'' (1996), '' The Brothers'' (2001), ''The Cookout'' (2004), '' Think Like a Man'' (2012) and in the sequel ''Think Like a Man Too'' (2014), ''Baggage Claim'' (2013) and '' The Wedding Ringer'' (2015), as well as in ''The Temptations'' miniseries (1998). Lewis is known unofficially as "The Mother of Black Hollywood" (also the name of her memoir) given her frequent matriarchal film and television roles. Kinloch, Missouri
Kinloch is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 298 as of the 2010 census. The oldest African-American community to be incorporated in Missouri, Kinloch was home to a vibrant and flourishing black community for much of the 19th and 20th century. It began to decline in the 1980s, when the City of St. Louis began to buy up property due to an FAA noise-abatement program for nearby St. Louis Lambert International Airport. Between 1990 and 2000, Kinloch lost more than 80 percent of its population, and the city became an increasingly violent and dangerous place to live. Kinloch High School
Kinloch High School was a segregated high school in Kinloch, Missouri, part of St. Louis County. It operated from 1936–1976. History Prior to the Civil War, black children were not allowed to receive an education in Missouri. After the Civil War, schooling started for black students. Douglass Elementary School opened in the 1890s and evolved into Douglass High School in the 1920s. Black communities in St. Louis were in such areas as North Webster, and Kinloch. In the 1930s, there was no high school whatsoever in Kinloch, for blacks or whites.
