Jean Wells
Oeva Jean Wells Koebernick (July 25, 1955 – January 25, 2012) was an American writer, artist, and editor in the field of role-playing games. She was the first female game designer to be hired by TSR, Inc. Her career at TSR stalled after she wrote a controversial ''Dungeons & Dragons'' adventure module that was withdrawn on the eve of publication and subsequently rewritten. Early life Jean Wells was born July 25, 1955 in Jacksonville, Florida to Walton and Ellen Loft Wells. During a college canoe camping trip, she participated in an impromptu session of ''Dungeons & Dragons''. She was fascinated by the game, and once back on campus, she quickly ordered her own set of the rules, and joined a local group called the "D&D Gang of Statesmen Complex". After several gaming sessions, she realized that she liked the role of dungeon master more than player. Beloit, Wisconsin
Beloit is a city in Rock County, Wisconsin, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 36,657 people. History Twelve men in Colebrook, New Hampshire, created the "New England Emigrating Company" in October 1836 and sent Horace White to find a suitable region of Wisconsin in which to settle. The level fields and the water power of Turtle Creek and "unlimited gravel" in the area around what is now Beloit fixed the site of the village and farms. White purchased the land. At the same time as the Colebrook settlers, six families from Bedford, New Hampshire, arrived and settled in the region. They said the Rock River Valley had a "New England look" that made them feel at home. The village was platted in 1838 and was planned with wide streets, building on the New England model. Thomas Steven Moldvay (Nov. 5, 1948 – March 9, 2007) was an American game designer and author, best known for his work on early materials for the fantasy role-playing game ''Dungeons & Dragons'' (D&D). Career During the 1970s while a student at Kent State University in Ohio, Moldvay was a writer for the science fiction fanzine ''Infinite Dreams''. Frank Mentzer
Jacob Franklin Mentzer III is an American fantasy author and game designer who worked on early materials for the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' (D&D) fantasy role-playing game. He was an employee of TSR, Inc. from 1980 to 1986, spending part of that time as creative advisor to the chairman of the board, Gary Gygax. He also founded the Role-Playing Games Association (RPGA) during his time with TSR. After Gygax was ousted from TSR at the end of 1985, Mentzer left TSR as well and helped him to start New Infinities Productions Inc. (NIPI). When this venture failed, Mentzer left the gaming industry, eventually becoming the manager of a bakery. Laura S. Roslof (November 12, 1948April 2, 2018) was an American artist. She and her husband, Jim Roslof, worked for TSR, Inc. during the "golden age" of ''Dungeons & Dragons''. Laura was best known for creating a contentious piece of art for the ''D&D'' adventure ''Palace of the Silver Princess''. Early life Laura Roslof (née Miller) was born November 12, 1948, in DeKalb, Illinois to Edward and Hildegard (Vilser) Miller. On April 28, 1968, at age 20, she married Jim Roslof. Erol Otus
Erol Otus is an American artist and game designer, known internationally for his contributions to the fantasy role-playing game (RPG) genre, especially early in the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' franchise. He is also known for his artwork on the multiple award winning ''Star Control II'' as well as providing the voice for one of the character races, the Chmmr, in the same game. Biography A self-taught artist since childhood, Otus developed an interest in role-playing games and became employed in the art department of game company TSR in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin in the 1970s. Mike Carr (game Designer)
Mike Carr (born September 4, 1951) is a writer and game designer. Career Early years While still a teenager living in Saint Paul in 1968, Carr created a game called '' Fight in the Skies'' (also known as ''Dawn Patrol''). He was invited to present and referee the game at the very first Gen Con convention in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, but had to convince his parents to drive him to Lake Geneva for the weekend. While at Gen Con, he met the convention's organizer, Gary Gygax, and quickly became an acquaintance. Three years later, he co-authored ''Don't Give Up The Ship!'' with Gygax and Dave Arneson. Carr began wargaming with the International Federation of Wargamers as a teenager. After high school, Carr completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Macalester College before going on to work as a restaurant manager with Ground Round in the mid-1970s. Palace Of The Silver Princess
''Palace of the Silver Princess'' is an adventure module for the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' ''Basic Set''. It was recalled on the same day it was released, then rewritten and re-released some months later. The original version, with an orange cover, was written in 1980 by Jean Wells. When the orange version was recalled (and most copies destroyed), the module was rewritten by Tom Moldvay and released with a green cover. Writing credit on the second version was given to both Moldvay and Wells, although there was very little of Wells' original content in Moldvay's version. ''Palace of the Silver Princess'' contains a single ''D&D'' adventure laid out in a format suitable for a single gaming session. The module includes game maps on the unattached outside cover.
