Jean-François Bertrand
Jean-François Bertrand is a former Canadian politician in Quebec, Canada. Bertrand served in the National Assembly of Quebec. Background He was born on June 22, 1946 in Cowansville, Quebec and has a degree in political science from Université Laval. He is the son of politicians Jean-Jacques and Gabrielle Bertrand. Political career Member of the legislature Bertrand became an executive member of the Parti Québécois in 1974 and was elected to the National Assembly of Quebec in the 1976 election. He served as parliamentary assistant and Deputy House Leader from 1978 to the 1981 election. He was re-elected in 1981 and was appointed to Premier René Lévesque's Cabinet. He served as Minister of Communications, until his defeat in the 1985 election. He also was the government's House Leader from 1982 to 1984. Vanier is a former provincial electoral district located in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada, which elected members to the National Assembly of Quebec. As of its final election, it included mostly western and central portions of Quebec City west of Quebec Autoroute 73. It was created for the 1973 election from parts of the riding of Saint-Sauveur. Its final election was in 2008. It disappeared in the 2012 election and the successor electoral district was Vanier-Les Rivières. Denis Paradis (born April 1, 1949) is a Canadian politician and lawyer who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Brome—Missisquoi from 2015 until 2019 and previously from 1995 to 2006. A member of the Liberal Party of Canada, Paradis was Minister of State for Financial Institutions from 2003 to 2004. His brother, Pierre Paradis, is a member of the National Assembly of Quebec and a provincial cabinet minister. The Paradis brothers are political allies.
