Jayatilake Podinilame
H. Jayatilake Podinilame (1947/48 – 28 April 2013) was a Sri Lankan politician who served as the 3rd Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa. He was appointed in March 1993 succeeding Abeyratne Pilapitiya and was Chief Minister until June 1998. He was succeeded by Kantha Gunatilleke after a period of vacancy. Podinilame also served as the Minister of Industries, Trade and Transport in 1991. He was also the Northwestern Development Minister of the UNP Government in 2000. Abeyratne Pilapitiya
Abeyratne Bandara Herath Pilapitiya (born 25 May 1925) (known as ''Abeyratne Pilapitiya'') was a Sri Lankan politician who served as the 3rd Governor of Uva and 2nd Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa. Pilapitiya was first elected to parliament in March 1960 general election from Kalawana representing the United National Party, he lost the July 1960 general election to L. de S.A. Gunasekera. He was re-elected in the 1965 general election. He lost his seat to Sarath Muttetuwegama in the 1970 general election. He was again re-elected in the 1977 general election, defeating Sarath Muttetuwegama, but lost his seat in 1980 due to an election petition. Kantha Gunatilleke was the 4th Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa. He was appointed in April 1999 succeeding Jayatilake Podinilame and was Chief Minister until June 1999. Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP; ) is a Marxist–Leninist communist party and a former militant organization in Sri Lanka. The movement was involved in two armed uprisings against the government of Sri Lanka: once in 1971 (SLFP), and another in 1987–89 ( UNP). The motive for both uprisings was to establish a socialist state. The JVP was initially a small organisation that became a well-organised party that could influence mainstream politics. Its members campaigned openly for the left-wing coalition government, United Front. Following their disillusion with the coalition, they started an insurrection against the Dominion of Ceylon in early 1971, which intensified following the ban on the party. The Sabaragamuwa Province ( si, සබරගමුව පළාත ''Sabaragamuwa Paḷāta'', ta, சபரகமுவ மாகாணம் ''Sabaragamuwa Mākāṇam'') is one of the nine provinces of Sri Lanka, the first level administrative division of the country. The provinces have existed since the 19th century but did not have any legal status until 1987 when the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka established provincial councils.
