Kantha Gunatilleke was the 4th Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa. He was appointed in April 1999 succeeding Jayatilake Podinilame and was Chief Minister until June 1999. Jayatilake Podinilame
H. Jayatilake Podinilame (1947/48 – 28 April 2013) was a Sri Lankan politician who served as the 3rd Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa. He was appointed in March 1993 succeeding Abeyratne Pilapitiya and was Chief Minister until June 1998. He was succeeded by Kantha Gunatilleke after a period of vacancy. Podinilame also served as the Minister of Industries, Trade and Transport in 1991. He was also the Northwestern Development Minister of the UNP Government in 2000. Athauda Seneviratne
Athauda Seneviratne (19 September 1931 – 31 March 2022) was a Sri Lankan politician and a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka. He was also a Cabinet Minister of Sri Lanka. Political career In 1957 Athauda was elected to the Village Council of Othara Gam Dolaha Pattu. In 1960 he unsuccessfully contested the March 1960 parliamentary election in the Dedigama Electoral District. At the 1965 parliamentary election he ran in the Ruwanwella Electoral District, representing the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP), failing by 417 votes although he did win the seat at the subsequent elections in 1970, defeating the sitting member P. C. Imbulana by 2,936 votes. He however failed to get re-elected in 1977 losing by 4,067 votes to P. C. Imbulana. Athauda was elected as a member of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council and became the Leader of the Opposition at the Provincial Council in 1988. Chief ministers in Sri Lanka are elected heads of the provincial boards of ministers, bodies which aid and advice the governors, the heads of the provincial government, in the exercise of their executive power. The governor appoints as chief minister a member of the provincial council who, in his opinion, commands the support of a majority of that council. There are nine chief ministerial positions in the country, out of which only six are currently occupied, while 3 are vacant and under the governor's direct rule. The Sabaragamuwa Province ( si, සබරගමුව පළාත ''Sabaragamuwa Paḷāta'', ta, சபரகமுவ மாகாணம் ''Sabaragamuwa Mākāṇam'') is one of the nine provinces of Sri Lanka, the first level administrative division of the country. The provinces have existed since the 19th century but did not have any legal status until 1987 when the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka established provincial councils. The Sabaragamuwa Province contains two districts: Ratnapura and Kegalle.
