Jason Kerr (cricketer)
Jason Ian Douglas Kerr (born 7 April 1974 in Bolton, Greater Manchester) is an English cricket coach and former first-class cricketer, who is currently head coach of Somerset County Cricket Club. An all-rounder, he played as right-handed batsman, who bowled right-arm medium-fast. He played first-class cricket for Somerset from 1993, before moving to Derbyshire in 2001. After back injury curtailed his career at the end of 2002, Bridgwater Cricket Club appointed Kerr as director of coaching in 2004 to spearhead their West of England Premier League promotion bid. He succeeded Ben Wellington, who resigned in early February 2004 because of his commitments as a full-time coach at Somerset's Centre of Excellence. Kerr returned to Somerset as a self-employed coach in 2005, before taking up the Academy Directors post full-time in February 2006, replacing the ECB bound Kevin Shine. Bolton
Bolton (, locally ) is a large town in Greater Manchester in North West England, formerly a part of Lancashire. A former mill town, Bolton has been a production centre for textiles since Flemish people, Flemish weavers settled in the area in the 14th century, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition. The urbanisation and development of the town largely coincided with the introduction of textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution. Bolton was a 19th-century boomtown and, at its zenith in 1929, its 216 cotton mills and 26 bleaching and dyeing works made it one of the largest and most productive centres of Spinning (textiles), cotton spinning in the world. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Matthew Maynard
Matthew Peter Maynard, (born 21 March 1966) is an English cricket coach and former cricketer. He played in four Tests and fourteen ODIs for England. Maynard was a batsman (and, later in his career, wicketkeeper) known for his aggressive and dashing strokeplay. His first-class career with Glamorgan, saw him achieve a batting average of 42.53, take 372 catches and make seven stumpings with the gloves, earned him several caps for England, but he was never able to translate his county form into Test success. He was named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1998. He was the second batsman for Glamorgan to score a century on debut in a first-class match. Kevin Shine
Kevin James Shine (born 22 February 1969) is a former first-class cricketer and former coach of Somerset County Cricket Club, and was the fast-bowling coach for the England cricket team from 2006 until 2019. In November 2019 he joined Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club as an Assistant Coach. His first-class career ran from 1989 to 1998, during which he played for Hampshire, Middlesex and Somerset. He took 249 first-class wickets at an average of 36.09, including 55 in the 1997 season. His best innings figures were 8 for 47 for Hampshire against Lancashire in 1992. Coaching career After retiring as a player due to injury, he served as coach of Somerset from 2001 to 2004. The team won the C&G Trophy in his first year in charge. All-rounder
An all-rounder is a cricketer who regularly performs well at both batting and bowling. Although all bowlers must bat and quite a handful of batsmen do bowl occasionally, most players are skilled in only one of the two disciplines and are considered specialists. Some wicket-keepers have the skills of a specialist batter and have been referred to as all-rounders, but the term ''wicket-keeper-batter'' is more commonly applied to them, even if they are substitute wicket keepers who also bowl. Not Out
In cricket, a batter is not out if they come out to bat in an innings and have not been dismissed by the end of an innings. The batter is also ''not out'' while their innings is still in progress. Occurrence At least one batter is not out at the end of every innings, because once ten batters are out, the eleventh has no partner to bat on with so the innings ends. Usually two batters finish not out if the batting side declares in first-class cricket, and often at the end of the scheduled number of overs in limited overs cricket. Batters further down the batting order than the not out batters do not come out to the crease at all and are noted as ''did not bat'' rather than ''not out''; by contrast, a batter who comes to the crease but faces no balls is ''not out''.
