Jaques Surcouf
Jacques M R Surcouf (1873–1934) was a French entomologist. He held the title of baron and may have been of corsair descent (see Robert Surcouf). From at least 1906–1911, he was head of zoology at the colonial laboratory of the Paris National Museum of Natural History. He published a number of notable studies, largely on the subject of flies. In 1909 he published a description of four new species of horse-fly (Tabanidae) from India and Assam with Gertrude Ricardo, a scientist from the British Museum. Entomology () is the scientific study of insects, a branch of zoology. The Société entomologique de France, or French Entomological Society, is devoted to the study of insects. The society was founded in 1832 in Paris, France. The society was created by eighteen Parisian entomologists on January 31, 1832. The first (honorary) president was Pierre André Latreille (1762-1833) who was elected unanimously and established the goal of the society to contribute to and progress the development of entomology in all its aspects. Calliphoridae
The Calliphoridae (commonly known as blow flies, blow-flies, carrion flies, bluebottles, greenbottles, or cluster flies) are a family of insects in the order Diptera, with almost 1,900 known species. The maggot larvae, often used as fishing bait, are known as gentles. The family is known to be polyphyletic, but much remains disputed regarding proper treatment of the constituent taxa, some of which are occasionally accorded family status (e.g., Bengaliidae and Helicoboscidae). The name blowfly comes from an older English term for meat that had eggs laid on it, which was said to be flyblown. Diptera
Flies are insects of the order Diptera, the name being derived from the Greek δι- ''di-'' "two", and πτερόν ''pteron'' "wing". Insects of this order use only a single pair of wings to fly, the hindwings having evolved into advanced mechanosensory organs known as halteres, which act as high-speed sensors of rotational movement and allow dipterans to perform advanced aerobatics.
