Janusz Minkiewicz
Janusz Minkiewicz (born June 25, 1914 in St. Petersburg – May 29, 1981 in Warsaw) was a Polish writer, translator, journalist and satirist. Born in St. Petersburg, he graduated from the faculty of philosophy of the Warsaw University. Active in various journals, he was considered one of the heirs to the Skamander group of poets. In 1939 he fled Nazi-occupied part of Poland to Vilna, then under Lithuanian occupation, where in 1940 (after the Soviet take-over of the city) he ran a satirical theatre, as well as the "Ksantypa" cabaret in Biały Sztral cafe. Following the German take-over of the city in 1941 he moved back to Warsaw, where he collaborated with numerous officially-approved theatres.''Sława i infamia. ''Przekrój'' (; ''Cross-section'') was the oldest Polish weekly newsmagazine in operation, established in 1945 in Kraków. After temporary closure in 2013, it was bought by photographer Tomasz Niewiadomski and subsequently relaunched in December 2016 as a quarterly magazine. Lesław Marian Bartelski (September 8, 1920 – March 27, 2006) was a Polish writer, perhaps best known for his work, ''Warsaw Ghetto Thermopolye'' and his novel ''The Blood-stained Wings''. Early life Bartelski was born in Warsaw, where he spent most of his life. During World War II, he was member of the Polish resistance (1941–1945), fighting against Nazi occupation. During the war, he wrote for the underground magazine '' Sztuka i Naród'' (Art and Nation), beginning his literary career. In 1944, as a member of the Home Army he fought in the Warsaw Uprising.
