Jan Procházka (writer)
Jan Procházka (4 February 1929 – 20 February 1971) was a Czechoslovak writer, screenwriter and producer. He wrote films including ''Ucho'', ''Fetters'', ''Slasti Otce vlasti'' and ''On the Comet''. Procházka was also involved in films such as ''A Report on the Party and the Guests'' and ''Diamonds of the Night ''Diamonds of the Night'' ( cs, Démanty noci) is a 1964 Cinema of the Czech Republic, Czech film about two boys on the run from a train taking them to a concentration camp, based loosely on Arnošt Lustig's autobiographical novel ''Darkness Has No ...''. Ivančice
Ivančice (; german: Eibenschütz, yi, אייבעשיץ) is a town in Brno-Country District in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 9,700 inhabitants. The historic town centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an Cultural monument (Czech Republic)#Monument zones, urban monument zone. Administrative parts Villages of Alexovice, Budkovice, Hrubšice, Letkovice, Němčice and Řeznovice are administrative parts of Ivančice. Geography Ivančice lies about southwest of Brno. It is located in the Boskovice Furrow at the confluence of the Oslava, Jihlava (river), Jihlava and rivers. History The first written mention of Ivančice is from 1212. ''The Ear'' ( cz, Ucho) is a Czech language film by Karel Kachyňa, completed in 1970. This film was banned by the nation's ruling Communist party (who were supported by the occupying Soviet forces). It wasn't released until the fall of the communist regime in 1989. Plot The film is about a bitter married couple that consists of Ludvík, a senior official of Prague's ruling Communist regime, and his alcoholic wife Anna. They return home after attending a political party dinner and notice their home has been broken into. Several strange occurrences, including the disappearance of their spare house keys and dead phone lines, lead them to believe that they are under surveillance by their own government. ''Na kometě'' (literally ''On the Comet'') is a 1970 Czech film directed by Karel Zeman, based on Jules Verne's novel ''Off on a Comet''. The film is a combination of animated and live action film. Animation is based on illustrations for Verne's novels. The story is presented in grotesque way, especially conflicts between British and French soldiers. Zeman added a romantic plot that includes Hector Servadac and Angelica. Plot In a French colony of Northern Africa, Captain Hector Servadac works as a cartographer for the French army. He falls into the sea while mapping the area and is saved by the beautiful Angelica, a young woman on the run from Spanish captors. The Spaniards are helping the Arabian king, who is leading an uprising in the colony. ''A Report on the Party and Guests'' ( cs, O slavnosti a hostech, also known in English as ''The Party and the Guests'') is a 1966 Czechoslovakian political satire film directed by Jan Němec. It was banned in Czechoslovakia from 1966 to 1968 for being an allegory of socialist regimes. After a short release during the Prague Spring, it was banned again, this time for twenty years. In 1974, director Jan Němec was forced to leave the country. The film was entered in the 1968 Cannes Film Festival, but the festival was aborted owing to the events of May 1968 in France. Plot A group of four men and three women are having a picnic in a field. One of the women says they should get going so they will make it to a celebration on time, and the group cleans up and walks into the woods. It was director Jan Němec's first feature film. Plot Two teenage boys flee from a moving train, shedding, as they run, long black coats that have the letters "KL" (the abbreviation for ''Konzentrationslager'', which is German for "concentration camp") painted in white on the back. Behind them can be heard shouts and gunfire. The film employs little dialogue, and the boys' escape through forests and swamps and across rocky terrain is interpolated with depictions of the memories, dreams, and hallucinations of the younger of the two boys.
