Jamieson's Special Survey
In 1841, Hugh Jamieson purchased , or eight square miles, of land near Dromana on the Mornington Peninsula approximately 60 km south of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The land was purchased from the Crown for one pound an acre under the terms of the short-lived Special Survey regulations. The land was leased and sublet in small lots and eventually became part of the Mount Martha sheep station. Jamieson's Special Survey is bounded by the line Ellerina Road/Bruce Road/Foxeys Road to the north, the line of Point Nepean Road/Dunns Creek Road to the south, Port Phillip Bay near Safety Beach to the west and the line of Bulldog Creek Road to the east. Dromana, Victoria
Dromana is a seaside suburb on the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Mornington Peninsula local government area. Dromana recorded a population of 6,626 at the 2021 census. Geography Dromana is located in Victoria, south of the capital city, Melbourne, between Mornington and St Andrews Beach. It is located west of Merricks Beach and French Island. Overlooking Dromana from the south, Arthurs Seat is the highest point on the Mornington Peninsula. History Prior to European colonisation, the area now known as Dromana was known to the Boonwurrung as ''Kangerrong''. The Mornington Peninsula is a peninsula located south of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is surrounded by Port Phillip to the west, Western Port to the east and Bass Strait to the south, and is connected to the mainland in the north. Geographically, the peninsula begins its protrusion from the mainland in the area between Pearcedale and an area north of Frankston. The area was originally home to the ''Mayone-bulluk'' and ''Boonwurrung-Balluk'' clans and formed part of the Boonwurrung nation's territory prior to European settlement. Port Phillip District Special Surveys
In August 1840, the Colonial Land and Emigration Commissioners of the British Government decided to allow the purchase of land anywhere in the Port Phillip District of New South Wales (now in Victoria), Australia. Special Surveys could be requested to enable the purchase of , or eight square miles, for £1 per acre. This price was significantly below the value of the land at that time. To restrict the sale of valuable land, Governor Gipps introduced regulations in March 1841 that required the land to be more than from a surveyed township, and to restrict the water-frontage to one mile (1.6 km) per four square miles of area. Mount Martha is a suburb on the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Mornington Peninsula local government area. Safety Beach, Victoria
Safety Beach is a seaside town on the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Mornington Peninsula local government area.
