Dromana ( ) is a seaside suburb on the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Mornington Peninsula local government area. Dromana recorded a population of 6,626 at the 2021 census. Geography Dromana is located in Victoria, south of the capital city, Melbourne, between Mornington and St Andrews Beach. It is located west of Merricks Beach and French Island. Overlooking Dromana from the south, Arthurs Seat is the highest point on the Mornington Peninsula. History Prior to European colonisation, the area now known as Dromana was known to the Boonwurrung as ''Kangerrong''. It is believed that the name Dromana is of Irish origin and that it came about from the influx of gold prospectors in the late 1830s. Electoral District Of Nepean
The electoral district of Nepean is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly covering the southernmost part of the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. It is named after Point Nepean, Victoria, Point Nepean which is contained within the electorate. The seat was created prior to the 2002 Victorian state election as a replacement for Electoral district of Dromana, Dromana. Like its predecessor, historically it had been a relatively safe seat for the Liberal Party of Australia (Victorian Division), Liberal Party, although Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch), Labor came within 0.2% of winning it in 2002. Port Phillip District Special Surveys
In August 1840, the Colonial Land and Emigration Commissioners of the British Government decided to allow the purchase of land anywhere in the Port Phillip District of New South Wales (now in Victoria), Australia. Special Surveys could be requested to enable the purchase of , or eight square miles, for £1 per acre. This price was significantly below the value of the land at that time. Shire Of Flinders (Victoria)
The Shire of Flinders was a local government area encompassing the extremity of the Mornington Peninsula, about south of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1874 until 1994. History The Kangerong Road District (adjoining Port Phillip) was created on 14 October 1862. The Flinders Road District, on the east of the peninsula, was created on 15 December 1868. Bridie Kennedy (born 23 September 1999) is an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton and Sydney in the AFL Women's (AFLW). She played junior representative football with the Dandenong Stingrays in the TAC Cup Girls competition where she was a co-winner of the league's best and fairest award in 2017 with future teammate Chloe Molloy. She also played state league football that year with Cranbourne in the VFL Women's competition and previously played local junior football with Dromana. Kennedy was drafted by Carlton with their fourth selection and the 36th pick overall in the 2017 AFL Women's draft. The Mornington Peninsula Football Netball League (MPFNL), formerly known as the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League (MPNFL), is an Australian rules football competition, governed by the AFL South East.
