James Sherman (comic Book Artist)
James Sherman (b. 1948) is an artist known for his work in American comic books, movies, and logos. Career James Sherman is an artist and colorist who worked for DC Comics and Marvel Comics in the 1970s and 1980s. His first professional comics art appeared in ''Tarzan Family'' #65 and '' Blackhawk'' #248 (both cover dated Sept.–Oct. 1976). He drew the Challengers of the Unknown lead feature in ''Super-Team Family'' #8–10 in collaboration with writer Steve Skeates and inker Jack Abel. Sherman is best known for his pencil work on '' Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes'' in the late 1970s, when he took over as regular artist following Mike Grell. He and writer Paul Levitz introduced the Dawnstar character in ''Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes'' #226 (April 1977). Sherman's run ended halfway through the multiple issue " Earthwar" story arc due to his displeasure with the direction of the storyline. Legion Of Super-Heroes
The Legion of Super-Heroes is a fictional superhero team appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by writer Otto Binder and artist Al Plastino, the Legion is a group of superpowered beings living in the 30th and 31st centuries of the , and first appears in '' Adventure Comics'' #247 (April 1958). Initially, the team was closely associated with the original Superboy character ( Superman when he was a teenager), and was portrayed as a group of time travelers. Walter Simonson (born September 2, 1946) is an American comic book writer and artist, best known for a run on Marvel Comics' ''Thor'' from 1983 to 1987, during which he created the character Beta Ray Bill. Howard Victor Chaykin (; born October 7, 1950) is an American comic book artist and writer. Chaykin's influences include his one-time employer and mentor, Gil Kane, and the mid-20th century illustrators Robert Fawcett and Al Parker. Early life Howard Chaykin was born in Newark, New Jersey, to Rosalind Pave and Norman Drucker, who soon separated. Chaykin was initially raised by his grandparents in Staten Island, New York City, until his mother married Leon Chaykin in 1953 and the family moved to East Flatbush and later to 370 Saratoga Avenue, Brownsville, Brooklyn. Upstart Associates
Upstart Associates, sometimes known as Upstart Studios, was the name of an artists' studio on West 29th Street in New York City formed in late 1978 by four comic book creators. These artists were Howard Chaykin, Walt Simonson, Val Mayerik, and Jim Starlin. The membership of the studio changed over time, eventually adding James Sherman, Frank Miller, and Gary Hallgren as previous members left (there were never more than four studio members at any one time). In addition, future comics professionals Peter Kuper and Dean Haspiel worked as assistants at Upstart before they began getting professional work. Some of the most notable comics of the early 1980s were produced at Upstart, including Chaykin's ''American Flagg!'', Simonson's run on ''Thor'', and Miller's run on '' Daredevil''. Joe Staton ( born January 19, 1948) is an American comics artist and writer. He co-created the Bronze Age Huntress (Helena Wayne), as well as the third Huntress (Helena Bertinelli), Kilowog and the Omega Men for DC Comics. He was the artist of the '' Dick Tracy'' comic strip from 2011 to October 2021. Early life Joe Staton grew up in Tennessee and graduated from Murray State University in 1970. "Earthwar" is a story arc that was published by DC Comics, and presented in ''Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes'' #241-245 (July–November 1978).
