James Royal
James Royal (born James Nairn, 14 July 1941) is a British pop singer. His most international successful record was "Call My Name" in 1967. Life and career James Nairn was born on 14 July 1941, in Ealing near to London. Upon leaving secondary school, he served three years in the Royal Air Force. In 1963, James formed his band with which he performed under the name Jimmy Royal and the Hawks in London pubs and bars. He recorded with this group a first title in 1964 for Decca, followed by other singles in 1965 for Parlophone, the second under his own name of James Royal and emerged as a solo artist. He signed with CBS in 1966, and the first title released by his new company in the UK in 1967 ("Call My Name") became a hit in Europe in 1968. The title is thus ranked No. 11 in France (December 1967), and No. 4 in Belgium (March 1968). But it does not work in the UK. Ealing
Ealing () is a district in West London, England, west of Charing Cross in the London Borough of Ealing. Ealing is the administrative centre of the borough and is identified as a major metropolitan centre in the London Plan. Ealing was historically in the county of Middlesex. Until the urban expansion of London in the late 19th century and early 20th centuries, it was a rural village. Improvement in communications with London, culminating with the opening of the railway station in 1838, shifted the local economy to market garden supply and eventually to suburban development. Terry Britten
Terence Ernest Britten (born July 1947) is an English-Australian singer-songwriter and record producer, who has written songs for Tina Turner, Cliff Richard, Olivia Newton-John, Status Quo and Michael Jackson amongst many others. Britten (along with co-writer Graham Lyle) won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1985 for "What's Love Got to Do with It". Mervyn Conn (born 5 February 1934) is a British music promoter and entrepreneur. Biography Early life and career Conn born in 1934 started work in the fashion industry, but by the early 1960s, with the help of his cousin, the comedian Bernie Winters, he had begun running a club, ''Romano's'', in Gerrard Street in Soho, London. He worked closely with agent Joe Collins (the father of Joan and Jackie Collins), and staged the first '' Beatles Christmas Shows'' in 1963. Management career He then managed many of the major pop music touring shows in the UK, including those headlined by such bands and musicians as P.J. Blue-eyed Soul
Blue-eyed soul (also called white soul) is rhythm and blues (R&B) and soul music performed by white artists. The term was coined in the mid-1960s, to describe white artists whose sound was similar to that of the predominantly-black Motown and Stax record labels. Though many R&B radio stations in the United States in that period would only play music by black musicians, some began to play music by white acts considered to have "soul feeling"; their music was then described as "blue-eyed soul." 1960s Georgie Woods, a Philadelphia radio DJ, is thought to have coined the term "blue-eyed soul" in 1964, initially to describe The Righteous Brothers, then white artists in general who received airplay on rhythm and blues radio stations.
