James Hamilton (footballer, Born 1884)
James Hamilton (born 1884; date of death unknown) was an English footballer who played at left-back for Burslem Port Vale and Oldham Athletic in the 1900s. Career Hamilton joined Burslem Port Vale from Burslem Town in March 1903. He played six Second Division games in the 1903–04 season, and went on to play 23 league and two FA Cup games in the 1904–05 campaign. He missed just four of the club's 38 league games of the 1905–06 season and went on to make 33 league appearances in the 1906–07 campaign. However, he was forced to leave the Athletic Ground after the club went into liquidation in 1907. He moved on to Oldham Athletic. Burslem
Burslem ( ) is one of the six towns that along with Hanley, Tunstall, Fenton, Longton and Stoke-upon-Trent form part of the city of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, England. It is often referred to as the "mother town" of Stoke on Trent. Topography Burslem is on the eastern ridge of the Fowlea Valley, the Fowlea being one of the main early tributaries of the River Trent. Burslem embraces the areas of Middleport, Dalehall, Longport, Westport, Trubshaw Cross, and Brownhills. The Trent & Mersey Canal cuts through, to the west and south of the town centre. A little further west, the West Coast Main Line railway and the A500 road run in parallel, forming a distinct boundary between Burslem and the abutting town of Newcastle-under-Lyme. Athletic Ground (Cobridge)
The Athletic Ground also known as Cobridge Stadium was a football stadium and greyhound racing stadium, located in Cobridge, Stoke-on-Trent. Football The ground was home to Port Vale for 27 years, hosting twelve Football League seasons. It was located opposite the church on Waterloo Road, directly on the Hanley and Burslem tram line. The seven-acre site was obtained from the Sandbach Charity on a 21-year lease. It was surrounded by a 430-yard cinder track for athletics and cycling, hence the name. On the north side was a 1,000 capacity grandstand, along with three shower baths and a gymnasium. They left the stadium for The Old Recreation Ground in 1913, and it was demolished in the 1980s after decades of use for amateur football. A Mercedes garage was later built near the site. The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions.
