Jake Kozloff
Jake Kozloff (1901–1976) was a Russian-born American businessman. He was the owner of the Lebanon Valley Brewing Company in Lebanon, Pennsylvania in the 1930s. He invested in hotels and casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada in the 1940s and 1950s, where he was also the president of Temple Beth Sholom. He went on to invest in hotels and casinos in the Caribbean in the 1960s. Early life Jacob Kozloff was born to a Jewish family in Russia in 1901. He emigrated to the United States in 1905, settling in Reading, Pennsylvania. Career Kozloff served as the owner, president and treasurer of the Lebanon Valley Brewing Company on North Seventh Street in Lebanon, Pennsylvania from 1933 onwards. He remained its owner until the late 1940s, when he sold it. Kozloff moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in the late 1940s, where he invested in casinos. Hacienda (resort)
The Hacienda was a hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, that operated from 1956 to 1996. It was opened by Warren Bayley, who owned other Hacienda properties in California as well. Bayley opened the hotel portion in June 1956, although the opening of the casino was delayed as the Nevada Gaming Control Board objected to his choice of casino manager, Jake Kozloff. The casino portion eventually opened on October 17, 1956. The $6 million property had 266 rooms and the largest pool on the Las Vegas Strip. Like its sister properties in California, the resort included a neon sign that depicted a cowboy riding a palomino horse. The Hacienda was built at the south end of the Strip, making it the first resort to be seen by tourists driving up from California. The United Jewish Appeal (UJA) was a Jewish philanthropic umbrella organization that existed from its creation in 1939 until it was folded into the United Jewish Communities, which was formed from the 1999 merger of United Jewish Appeal (UJA), Council of Jewish Federations and United Israel Appeal, Inc. In 2009, United Jewish Communities changed its name to The Jewish Federations of North America.
