Jacques Amir
Ya'akov Jacques Amir ( he, יעקב ז'אק אמיר; 15 March 1933 – 31 March 2011) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the Alignment between 1974 and 1988. Biography Born Jacques Amzalag in Essaouira in Morocco, Amir was educated in a vocational high school in Casablanca and was a member of the Pioneer youth movement. His father was Yitzhak-Chaim Amzalag. In 1952, he made aliyah to Israel, where he joined kibbutz Ein Gev and the Ahdut HaAvoda party. His first name, Jacques, was accidentally hebraized in Yaakov due to the error of an official at the Haifa port. The following year he moved to kibbutz Ginosar, where he lived until moving to Dimona in 1958. From 1959 until 1974, he worked at the Dead Sea Works, becoming senior foreman of the metal section, and first secretary and chairman of the workers council. Essaouira
Essaouira ( ; ar, الصويرة, aṣ-Ṣawīra; shi, ⵜⴰⵚⵚⵓⵔⵜ, Taṣṣort, formerly ''Amegdul''), known until the 1960s as Mogador, is a port city in the western Moroccan region of Marakesh-Safi, on the Atlantic coast. It has 77,966 inhabitants as of 2014. The foundation of the city of Essaouira was the work of the Moroccan 'Alawid sultan Mohammed bin Abdallah, who made an original experiment by entrusting it to several renowned architects in 1760, in particular Théodore Cornut and Ahmed al-Inglizi, who designed the city using French captives from the failed French expedition to Larache in 1765, and with the mission of building a city adapted to the needs of foreign merchants. Once built, it continued to grow and experienced a golden age and exceptional development, becoming the country's most important commercial port but also its diplomatic capital between the end of the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century. 1977 Israeli Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Israel on 17 May 1977 to elect the ninth Knesset. For the first time in Israeli political history, the right wing, led by Likud, won a plurality of seats, ending almost 30 years of rule by the left-wing Alignment and its predecessor, Mapai. The dramatic shift in Israeli politics caused by the outcome led to it becoming known as "the revolution" (Hebrew: המהפך, ''HaMahapakh''), a phrase coined by TV anchor Haim Yavin when he announced the election results live on television with the words "Ladies and gentlemen—a revolution!"
