Jackie Power
Jackie Power (30 May 1916 – 23 February 1994) was an Irish sportsperson. A renowned dual player, he played both hurling and Gaelic football with his local club Ahane and with the Limerick senior inter-county teams in both codes from 1935 until 1949. He later played with the Kerry senior hurling team. Early life Jackie Power was born in Annacotty, County Limerick in 1916. He was educated at his local national school where he was introduced to the game of hurling by his teacher. In his teens Power showed promise at athletics, however, he decided to forfeit this interest and concentrate on Gaelic games. Playing career Club Power played his club hurling and football with his local club in Ahane and enjoyed much success. Annacotty
Annacotty () is a suburban town on the outskirts of Limerick, Ireland, from the centre of the city. It is situated where the old N7 main road between Limerick and Dublin crosses the Mulkear River, upstream of where it flows into the River Shannon. History The village originally grew up around the grain mills which harnessed the water power of the River Mulkear. Clonkeen Church was established as a monastic site c. AD 600. One was beside the bridge itself and has now been restored as bar and restaurant and the second was upstream at Ballyclough. Annacotty Co-Operative Society was founded in the 1890s and butter was made at the creamery up to the 1960s when it was taken over by Black Abbey Co-operative of Adare (which, after a succession of mergers, became part of the Dairygold Co-op). The Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (Kilkenny GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Cill Chainnigh) is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Kilkenny. Stephen McNamara
Stephen McNamara (born 1973) is an Irish former hurler and manager who played as a right corner-forward for the Clare senior team. McNamara made his first appearance for the team during the 1995 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1999 championship. During that time he won two All-Ireland medals and three Munster medals. At club level McNamara played with Éire Óg. In retirement from playing McNamara has become involved in coaching, most notably with Faughs and Ballinteer St. John's in Dublin. McNamara is the third generation of his family to enjoy All-Ireland success. All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889. Each tournament ends with a final, played by the 35th Sunday of the year at Croke Park in Dublin, with the winning team receiving the Sam Maguire Cup. Ger Power
Ger Power (born 27 June 1952) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for the Austin Stacks club and at senior level for the Kerry county team between 1973 and 1988. Power captained Kerry to the All-Ireland title in 1980. Early life Ger Power was born in Annacotty, County Limerick in 1952. He was little over a week old when his father, Jackie Power, who worked for CIÉ, was transferred to Tralee in County Kerry. Jackie was a great hurler with Limerick in the 1930s and 1940s, winning three All-Ireland medals in 1934, 1936 and 1940. He later played hurling with Kerry and was a huge influence on his son's sporting career. Cú Chulainn
Cú Chulainn ( ), called the Hound of Ulster (Irish: ''Cú Uladh''), is a warrior hero and demigod in the Ulster Cycle of Irish mythology, as well as in Scottish and Manx folklore. He is believed to be an incarnation of the Irish god Lugh, who is also his father. His mother is the mortal Deichtine, sister of king Conchobar mac Nessa. Austin Stacks is a hurling and Gaelic football club based in Tralee in County Kerry, Ireland. Founded in 1917, the club has more All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medals and GAA All-Stars than any other Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in Ireland. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title.
