Jack B. Farris
Jack Brodie Farris (December 5, 1935 – December 14, 2019) was a United States Army lieutenant general who commanded the military ground forces during Operation Urgent Fury, the United States invasion of Grenada in 1983; at the time of his retirement in 1991 he was deputy commander of the United States Pacific Command in Hawaii. A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, he graduated from Myers Park High School. He then went on to receive a bachelor's degree in political science from The Citadel in 1958 and was commissioned as an infantry officer through the school's Army ROTC unit. His early career included assignments as a company commander in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and combat service in the Vietnam War as a battalion commander and the executive officer of the 173rd Airborne Brigade. The United States Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC or, obsolete, USACGSC) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, is a graduate school for United States Army and sister service officers, interagency representatives, and international military officers.
