Jörg Echternkamp
Jörg Echternkamp (born 1963) is a German military historian, who specialises in the history of Nazi Germany and World War II. He is a lecturer in modern history at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg and a research director at the Center for Military History and Social Sciences of the German Army (formerly the Military History Research Office (MGFA). His is a contributor and editor of the seminal series ''Germany and the Second World War'' from the MGFA. Historian of Nazi Germany Echternkamp is contributor to two volumes of the ''Germany and the Second World War'' series. He served as the editor of volume IX/II: ''German Wartime Society 1939–1945: Exploitation, Interpretations, Exclusion''. Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (german: Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg), also referred to as MLU, is a public, research-oriented university in the cities of Halle and Wittenberg and the largest and oldest university in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Jürgen Förster (born 1940) is a German historian who specialises in the history of Nazi Germany and World War II. He is a professor of history at the University of Freiburg, the position he has held since 2005. Förster is a contributor to the seminal work ''Germany and the Second World War'' from the Military History Research Office (MGFA). Rüdiger Overmans (born 6 April 1954 in Düsseldorf) is a German military historian who specializes in World War II history. His book ''German Military Losses in World War II'', which he compiled as leader of a project sponsored by the Gerda Henkel Foundation, is one of the most comprehensive works about German casualties in World War II. Horst Boog (5 January 1928 – 8 January 2016) was a German historian who specialised in the history of Nazi Germany and World War II. He was the research director at the Military History Research Office (MGFA). Boog was a contributor to several volumes of the seminal work ''Germany and the Second World War'' from the MGFA. He was an expert on the Luftwaffe and the German side of the aerial war in Europe during World War II. Boog also wrote for the right-wing, nationalistic newspaper ''Junge Freiheit'' and became politically active in the context of debates about the Allied strategic bombing during World War II. Since the early 1990s almost all of his work concentrated on arguing that Nazi Germany did not start bombing of civilians.
