Jödde I Göljaryd
Known as the father of ''bondkomik'' (rustic humor), Jödde i Göljaryd (1855–1900) was a beloved storyteller, whose folk humor and songs dominated popular culture in Sweden during the 1890s. The entertainer, whose real name was Karl Petter Rosén, was famous for his stone – Jödde’s Stone – which can still be seen at the open-air museum of Skansen in Stockholm's Djurgården park. 1893 was the year he began performing at Skansen with every manner of story and anecdote, often in the dialect of Småland, and with homey songs of a rural nature. In 1899 and 1900 Rosén published two collections of songs and stories gathered during his travels through Sweden. His songbooks — like those of his contemporary Lars Bondeson — were highly influential and an important source of material for the next generation of ''bondkomiker'' (rustic comics). Skansen
Skansen (; "the Sconce") is the oldest open-air museum and zoo in Sweden located on the island Djurgården in Stockholm, Sweden. It was opened on 11 October 1891 by Artur Hazelius (1833–1901) to show the way of life in the different parts of Sweden before the industrial era. Djurgården
Djurgården ( or ) or, more officially, ''Kungliga Djurgården'' (), is an island in central Stockholm, Sweden. Djurgården is home to historical buildings and monuments, museums, galleries, the amusement park Gröna Lund, the open-air museum Skansen, the small residential area ''Djurgårdsstaden'', yacht harbours, and extensive stretches of forest and meadows. Lars Bondeson
Lars Bondeson (1865-1908) was the stage name of Carl Jansson-Öhlin, who was one of the founders of Swedish ''bondkomik'' (rustic humor). Born in Örebro in 1865, he was a singer, storyteller, lyricist and music publisher. His songbooks were a major influence on countless entertainers in Sweden and America.''På Nöjets Estrader'' by Uno Myggan Ericson, (Stockholm: Bonnier, 1971) pp. 30-45. Career Lars Bondeson called himself " Sweden’s original rustic comic". At the same time that Jödde i Göljaryd (Karl Peter Rosén) was establishing the wardrobe and repertoire for a new form of entertainment, he was appearing at the Alhambra Variety Theatre in Stockholm. Bondeson — in contrast to Jödde i Göljaryd — took rustic humor into the world of commercial entertainment via vaudeville, dance halls and folk parks. Olle I Skratthult
Hjalmar Peterson was a singer and comedian from Sweden, who achieved great popularity during the 1910s and 1920s. His stage name was Olle i Skratthult (Olle from Laughtersville). Life Career Hjalmar Peterson was born in Munkfors, Värmland on February 7, 1886. After coming to the United States in 1906 and living in Willmar, Minnesota for many years, he eventually settled in Minneapolis. At first Peterson worked as a bricklayer in the new country, but before long he embarked on a career as a professional entertainer. In that role he returned to Sweden in 1909 and during a six-month tour gathered the songs, stories and jokes he would later use on stage in America. Back in America Peterson adopted the persona of Olle i Skratthult and began performing on the Scandinavian-language vaudeville circuit.
