Jyoti Basu (born Jyotirindra Basu; 8 July 1914 – 17 January 2010) was an Indian Marxism, Marxist theorist, communist activist, and politician. He was one of the most prominent leaders of Communism in India, Communist movement in India. He served as the 6th and longest serving Chief Minister of West Bengal from 1977 to 2000. He was one of the founding members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was the member of Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Politburo of the party since its formation in 1964 till 2008. He was also the member of West Bengal Legislative Assembly 11 times. In his political career, spanning over seven decades, he was noted to have been the India, India's List of longest-serving Indian chief ministers, longest serving chief minister in an elected democracy, at the time of his resignation. Anthony Lancelot Dias (14 March 1910 — 22 September 2002), also known as A. L. Dias was an Indian Civil Service officer and politician of Goan origin. Dias was born in Bombay and was in the Maharashtra cadre. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1970 for his management of a drought in Bihar.
