Justin Wilson (politician)
Justin M. Wilson (born March 11, 1979) is an American politician who has served as Mayor of Alexandria, Virginia since January 2, 2019. He previously served on the Alexandria City Council, including a term as Vice Mayor from 2016 to 2019. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Biography Wilson was born in Cheverly, Maryland and grew up in Washington, D.C. and Fairfax County, Virginia. He graduated from John R. Lewis High School (Springfield, VA) when it was under the name of Robert E. Lee High School and Virginia Commonwealth University. Wilson got his start in politics in the Virginia Young Democrats, and later served as a page for Don Beyer, during Beyer's tenure as Lieutenant Governor of Virginia. He married Alex Crawford-Batt in 2001, three years after meeting at a Democratic state convention while in college. Write-in Candidate
A write-in candidate is a candidate whose name does not appear on the ballot but seeks election by asking voters to cast a vote for the candidate by physically writing in the person's name on the ballot. Depending on electoral law it may be possible to win an election by winning a sufficient number of such write-in votes, which count equally as if the person was formally listed on the ballot. Writing in a name that is not already on the election ballot is considered a practice of the United States. However, some other jurisdictions have allowed this practice. 2021 Alexandria, Virginia Mayoral Election
The mayor of Alexandria is elected in November every three years. The current mayor is Justin Wilson. He was elected for a first term in 2018 and was reelected to a second term in 2021. He is not running for a third term in 2024. 2006 Incumbent mayor Bill Euille won reelection with no opposition candidates on May 2, 2006. 2009 Incumbent mayor Euille won reelection to a third term. The general election for mayor of Alexandria, Virginia, was held on November 6, 2018. Justin Wilson was elected as mayor, running unopposed in the general election. He had defeated first-term incumbent Allison Silberberg in the Democratic primary. Democratic primary The Democratic primary was held on June 18. Allison Silberberg (born 1963) is an American writer and politician. A Democrat, she served as the Mayor of Alexandria, Virginia from January 4, 2016 to January 2, 2019. Biography Silberberg was born in Dallas, Texas, to Alfred "Al" H. Silberberg, a petroleum engineer, and Barbara Arden Schwartz Silberberg, a community stateswoman and local Democratic Party activist. Silberberg received a bachelor's degree in international relations and history from American University in Washington, DC, and a master's degree in fine arts in playwriting from the School of Theater, Film and Television at the University of California, Los Angeles.
